clogged suction or discharge pump linr

My first question is: is the pump a dynamic pump or a displacement pump? My second question is the same as LittleInch: what is the baseline to which you are comparing?

    MIL-L-23699 OR MIL-L-7808 hydraulic oil

I second Tugboat on the viscosity. Secondarily, you can compare the additive packages and what functionality they are designed to provide, and if those might be related to your failure mode.

    calculation for tightening torque

The first question I would address is whether the loading is dynamic or static, and how many stress cycles. The second is what safety factor you need for your application. A third is what kind of statistical variation in strength the bolt exhibits (this may be built into proof load). The bolt...

Questions on becoming a Piping Engineer

I think that the key will be finding a way to gain piping design experience while working in a more diversified role that uses your established skills. You can also try networking with piping design folks to try to find opportunities. Perhaps find a local trade show where these potential...

Hex hole as a datum feature

Diametrix, are there other features on the part which define angular orientation? I'm guessing not because it looks like a simple threaded plug. Otherwise, if datum C is only 1 pair of opposing flats (per Burunduk, and as I also initially thought), you'll never know which of the 3 pairs it is...

Hex hole as a datum feature

I think that the CMM will do a best fit to determine the center axis.

Hex hole as a datum feature

It looks like the design intent is for the hex drive to define the axis of datum C, from which the runout of the 3.0" diameter can be measured. While that can be inferred, there's probably clearer ways to define it. Otherwise, I see no issues with the concept of applying the datum to the hex...

Dismantling Joint and Magnetic Flowmeter Installation

Does the dismantling joint have features which would disturb the flow? If not, I would think that you don't need the extra spacing. Even with disturbances, I think that they will cause effects more downstream, not so much upstream. You could always test both ways to be sure.

Check valve on fuel return line - NFPA 20

I would guess that the engine manufacturers contributing to NFPA 20 could not agree on the specific content, and wanted to preserve their own individual design freedom.

    Control Valve CFD Analysis

I think you can still calculate Cv from the simulation results that you get with the pressure boundary conditions.

    Control Valve CFD Analysis

If your design goal is maximum flow rate, then I agree with specifying the pressure at both ends as boundary conditions. That way you can compare different valve design iterations under the same conditions. As part of the boundary conditions, you'll also want the high-pressure side to act as...

    Control Valve CFD Analysis

The answer to your question depends on the purpose of your CFD analysis and the specifications to which you are trying to demonstrate compliance. What are you seeking to demonstrate with your analysis?

Standard for identifying features on Engineering Drawings?

One thing that may be missed by some folks is that with super-high-volume production environments, such as automotive, statistical process control becomes very important. In the automotive industry, it is mandated. That means that every dimension and specification on every part drawing has to...

Standard for identifying features on Engineering Drawings?

They probably do see it as extra work, and it is indeed extra work for the Designer in making the drawings. The right question is, however: Does it result in more or less work overall for the organization and its suppliers and customers? I think in the end you'll find it is less work and more...

    Clamped Shoe Support (Clamp orientation)

It depends on what they were designed to do. Without more information, you can't reasonably expect to get the answers you seek.
