Basement to walk out basement conversion

I have a project where the basement has 10 ft ceiling. The concrete basement wall stops just below the joists. They want to cut an opening to put a sliding door (orange) and smaller window (blue). I will be adding insulation just below the slab outside to deal with lack of frost depth. We...

    Crazy cantilevered steel deck

I would at least use all thread with nut and peened thread embedded pass (plus maybe 6") pass the development length of vertical rebar.

Anyone Ever Spec'ed these Joist Reinforcers?

Oh wow lol. Save your headache man. Use I joists. It would not be a big deal to cut a hole through the thin web of I-joists as long as you follow the manufacturer's guide. So if you do dimensional lumbers, do you review how they will plumb the drains before you lay out your joists? Seems...

Anyone Ever Spec'ed these Joist Reinforcers?

XR250, I have. It was a remodel and they had to add a drain just like you. Except on mine it went trough way more joists. TBH if I were you, I would just specify it and move on. Only 2 joists are affected and the product was tested. Yours seem to be a new construction? Why wasn't I-joists...

    Crazy cantilevered steel deck

I dont know, it feels scary to me that the whole heavy deck is literally being supported by only 4 bolts in tension. They should make the decking glass 😀.

I zoomed in, it looks like 3/4" dia.

    Crazy cantilevered steel deck

I found this video on youtube. What do you think of this deck? The guy went to the end of the deck and jumped a little bit, you can clearly see the deck moves up and down. At minute 3:55 he shows the structural detail.

    Cover your pergola

I started getting these targeted ads from this company on instagram and facebook. I don't know, it bothers me a lot. So they sell these transparent sheets and they persuade you to put them on top of your pergola. Pergolas in my area do not need an engineer. But as soon as you add roofing...

    Sidewalk Shed Design

I think sidewalk shed is a temporary roof added above sidewalk to protect pedestrians from construction. For 40K, for sure steel columns.

Hump in Floor - New Construction

Did they build a framed wall below the beam to the slab on grade? Maybe the soil is expansive? Not sure what level the beam is.

Exterior stone veneer & Rigid insulation

why do you need to tie back the cmu? Wouldnt the pressure of the backfill will keep them against the 2" insulation? Also from reading the spec on the zip R, I will need 1" air gap also. I think I will specify 6" CMU.

Exterior stone veneer & Rigid insulation

Just dry stack the CMU and backfill?

Exterior stone veneer & Rigid insulation

The zip R system and the rigid foam makes the stone veneer too far away from face of the concrete. Probably a bad idea to use steel angle

Exterior stone veneer & Rigid insulation

That is correct. All the way to the footing is what I am thinking.
