SImulate Helical threads in axisymmetric model?

Thank you for the reply DanStro, I have looked at the example you are refering to (1.1.20 example problem manual?), and cannot see any preloading. My model is set up almost identical to the way they have, although they do not have the problem of having to perform two consecutive makeups. The...

    Simple Question about Pressure Penetration

I figured it out, It turns out that the pressure load is doubled on those surfaces with both the pressure load and the pressure penetration, so ensure that only one of the above is applied to each surface in order to obtain appropriate loading.

    Simple Question about Pressure Penetration

Hello Everyone, I am currently modelling a pipe connection and as a part of the loading, an internal pressure is applied. I am applying this internal pressure via both Loads-->Pressure AND Interactions-->Pressure Penetration. My question is regarding which surfaces to apply the...

    Computer restarts during analysis

I had this issue once, but I doubt it is related to your problem since you say other analyses are running fine. It turns out Windows auto-update was not suppressed on my workstation and the PC would automatically restart to try and apply updates after-hours. Hope this helps! Dnov

SImulate Helical threads in axisymmetric model?

Hello Everyone, I am currently modeling a pipe connection in which there are helical threads on both the pin and coupling. Due to the extensive computational cost of running this model in 3D, I have created an axisymmetric model. I am simulating make-up of the connection by using the SHRINK...

Use Node Set to define path in Abaqus/Viewer

I have run into another problem, My model now includes thermal deformation and for each set of data I need both the 'true distance along path' as well as the contact pressure. The node list method will not work for this because in order to properly 'include intersections' the data needs to be...

Use Node Set to define path in Abaqus/Viewer

Mosgef, That is not a huge issue for me since the path on which data is extracted is straight for the most part, there are a few curved regions but it isn't too inconvienient to individually select those nodes. I have considered renumbering the nodes but from what I have found the only way to...

Initial stress imported from .odb file

I am working on a similar problem, the way I import the stress is create a predefined field -> initial state in the initial step of the second analysis (the first analysis being the only that gives the stress profile). When doing this, make sure that you request a restart file for the first...

Use Node Set to define path in Abaqus/Viewer

Thank you for your reply Mosgef, I gave that a try and that will help me out a lot. The only limitation seems to be that the start and end nodes must lie along a straight path in order to collect the appropriate data. Thanks Again!

Controlling crack propagation with the XFEM approach

Hello Lodham, I'm not overly familiar with fracture mechanics, let alone how Abaqus handles the calculations, but I have worked with XFEM a bit and have come up with a small tutorial on how to use this method. This document should hopefully help you with obtaining the contour integral results...

Use Node Set to define path in Abaqus/Viewer

Hello Everyone, I am analyzing a model in which contact pressure distribution is analyzed along a path of an instance. Normally, I would be able to define the path using the 'feature edge' method, but this is not working. Since I am performing a mesh optimization, the path definition...

Angled slit in steel plate: XFEM Contour Integral

Hello Everyone, I am trying to analyze the contour integral results of an angled crack that goes all the way through a 3D steel plate in tension. The crack or 'slit' is modeled as an XFEM crack and the appropriate contour integral results are requested. Once the analysis completes, contour...

Changing the *SLIDE LINE smoothing parameter after step

Hello Everyone, I have a model comprised of CAXA4R2 elements and ISL21A contact elements. When defining the *Slide Line, I specify a smoothing parameter of 0.3, however I would like to decrease this smoothing parameter upon completion of the first step. I considered using the *MODEL CHANGE...

CPRESS output with *SLIDE LINE interactions

All Right, After some tedious reading through the Analysis manual I've found out that when using the ISL__ elements apparently CPRESS is actually defined as S11.

CPRESS output with *SLIDE LINE interactions

Hello Everyone, I have a model in which there are two concentric cylinders with initial overclosures. This model will eventually incorporate asymmetric loading so I have created the model using CAXA4R2 elements along with ISL21A slide line elements for contact. The contact pressure...
