    Deep Bore Dimensioning

The designer has decided to remove the straightness tolerance and rely solely on position and size limits. Functional analysis and stack-up shows acceptable axis deviation without trying to impose axis straightness. Thanks, dezignr

    Deep Bore Dimensioning

Sorry, but I can't add a pic due to proprietary contraints. dezignr

    Deep Bore Dimensioning

Tuna, yes they seem to be trying to refine the position with straightness. I too believe the pos tol is sufficient but I was looking for another view point in case I'm missing something. dezignr

    Deep Bore Dimensioning

The conical tolerance zone is established with basic locating dimensions and a positional tolerance of .010" at the hole start surface and .040" at the hole end.

    Deep Bore Dimensioning

I am looking at a drawing that requires a couple of pretty deep bores (.375 dia x 20" deep). There is a conical positional tolerance zone locating the axis, presumably to recognize the possibility of drill wander, and there is also an axis straightness RFS callout associated with the FOS. I'm...

    Thanks pmarc - very helpful.

    Boundary on slotted features

Thanks all. I am still a little confused about using the position tol from the Flange 1 detail drawing in computing the boundary condition. My interpretation is boundary for datum B slots = MMC size of slots since no geo tol invoked on that end at the assembly. Boundary for slots in Flange 2...

    Boundary on slotted features

Thanks for the responses! First, my company still works to the 1994 standard. Second, we have since changed the modifiers to MMC for both the position of the slot pattern and the datum feature B slot pattern. So to recap: Flange 1 establishes datum surface A on its face, and its slotted...

    Boundary on slotted features

I am reviewing a welded assembly drawing that brings together two flanges and one tube. Both flanges contain slotted hole patterns that are defined on their respective detail drawings. They are being related/clocked one to the other on the assembly drawing as follows. One flange is utlized as...
