    ACH50 Question

First here's a little background. I'm working on a multi-family residence. I'm trying to figure out how much (if any) continuos ventilation I need to provide for each apartment. In living areas I need at least .35 ACH or 15 cfm/person whichever is greater. Energy Star says that for my...

    Duct Design In School Gym

I second the vote for DuctSox. It looks good (you can get it in just about any color you want). However not all fabric duct is created equal. Some of it looks like cheap plastic and sounds horrible. Use DuctSox Verona or Sedona. Also give them airflows and lenghts and they will design it...

Restaurant Load Calc Rule of Thumb

I've done 100 to 200 sq. ft./ton in restaurants depending on the equipment they have in there. Obviously calculating the actual heat gain is the better way to do it, but as we all know sometimes you don't have that information.

    Battery Charging Ventilation

I am working on a warehouse that will have a battery charging station in it, and I will need to provide exhaust. I have found information on battery charging rooms talking about number of air changes per hour, but since this is just a small corner space of the whole warehouse, that doesn't...

HVAC resources for "simple" side work

Try your local Carrier or Trane office. Often they will have "Air Conditioning" classes at night, around $400 or so. They will teach you the basics of HVAC design, equipment types (chillers, air handlers), system types (VAV, WSHP), duct design, controls, etc. Very informative for the basics...
