Dual Certification Materials - What to use in Calculations?

marty007 & jte, Thanks for the replies. If we change our part number description to indicate dual certification 304/304L then the BOM is going to show that. It hadn't been discussed but having the drawings note dual certification is required makes sense. Thanks, Dale

Dual Certification Materials - What to use in Calculations?

When your actual material has Dual Certification, such as SA-240 304/SA-240 /304L, how do you decide whether to select allowable stress in Section II-D for SA-240 304 or SA-240 304L? Dual certification is coming up more and more since in reality our inventory consists of the same material under...

Abrasion Resistant Steel for Vessel Wall

Are there any abrasion resistant carbon steels such as AR235 that are considered 'code grade' and would be listed in ASME Section II D? I'm not sure what designation to look for in II D. Customer is wanting the cone of the pressure vessel to be made out of abrasion resistant steel. I saw an...

    Designing Pressure Vessel for Deflagration

Have a pressure vessel to be designed per ASME Section VIII Divison 1 along with explosion containment. I see Nonmandatory Appendix H Guidance to Accommodate Loadings produced by Deflagration and it's reference to NFPA 69 chapter 5. Looks like NFPA 69 2008 Edition would be chapter 13. Appears...

ASME Material Conversion to EN 13445

Thanks for the responses. I'm looking at running calcs for EN 13445, trying to use materials that would equate to the ASME materials that we would use if it was designed to Section VIII Div 1. Dale

ASME Material Conversion to EN 13445

XL83NL, I'd downloaded the STP-PT-007 from ASME but had to do it as a locked one user PDF so I was surprized to see your unconrolled link to it on ASME's site. Dale

ASME Material Conversion to EN 13445

Does anyone know of some comparison that would give an idea of what EN 13445 material is equivalent to an ASME Section II-D material? Such as the EN 13445 equivalent for SA-516 70 or SA-240 304. Thanks for the help, Dale

    Quality Control Manager

Thanks for the help. I'd looked through the ASME courses but didn't see anything specifically for QC. There are a couple of courses that I've recommended that he attend. I hadn't thought about the National Board. What is Code West? It's not up to me or the person moving into the position...

    Quality Control Manager

Have a new person moving into the QC Manager position for our in-house Section VIII Div 1 code shop. The person has no experience in this area. What tools, classes or other learning methods are available for him? Anyone know of some good sources? Is there something that would help define...

    Creating Plot File

The file type is .plt in HPGL2 language. It basically amounts to creating a file of the code instead of spooling the code directly to the printer. A lot of programs have a check box for "Print to File" just below the printer information (or field to choose a printer out of all the printers you...

    Creating Plot File

Thanks Yagonyonok. We can create the pdf's but we archive plot files for all other types of drawings in order to print drawings as needed with a custom program. Drawings from Inventor are the odd ball for us. Dale
