Material Selection for pimps in Amine Unit

The recommended elastomer for an Amine applications is Aflas. It has been a while since I did pump selections for Amine pumps so I don't remember if we used carbons steel or 316 SS for the wetted parts. You don't want any of the copper alloys since amine attacks copper, but any of your iron...

    Pump material class

I must be reading this different than everyone else. When I specify a minimum design temperature it is a temperature about 25 deg C over what I think the maximum temperature of my application ever is going to hit in the worst case scenario. For example, if my application is likely to operate...

    Pump material class

I think I can help here and feel that some general discussion of pump selection outside mechanical design and fluid dynamics is perfectly welcome since it is involved in every pump selection. Metallurgist require a fluid analysis of the process fluid (not just the H2S level and Chloride level)...

positive displacement pump versus centrifugal pump

I haven't been on here in a while, but saw this thread and wanted to chime in late. I worked on a comparison between Reciprocating Plunger Pumps and Horizontal Multistage Surface Pumps about 5-6 years ago. The application was for and oilfield salt water injection project. The comparison was...

    Mechanical Seal Deffinitions

What are the definitions of a type 1 seal and a type 2 seals? All the reference materials and trainings that I have classify mechanical seals in terms of pusher, non-pusher, balance, unbalanced, inside, outside, double, tandem, cartridge, component, etc. When people talk of Type 1, Type 1B...

Thanks guys! All comments were greatly appriciated.

Plunger Pump and Multistage Centrifugal Pump opperating in Parallel

I just learned of a pump opperator that wants to run a multistage centrifugal pump in parallel with a possitive displacement plunger pump. Has anyone seen or heard of this being done before? If so what would be the justification from an operational standpoint for doing this. What measures...

Theoretical NPSHr or Theoretical Nss calculations

Thanks BigInch. I have seen reference to empirical equation but don't have any reference materials that covers advanced impeller design. I was hoping that someone here might know how the typical impeller geometry charts were created and be able to help me get a little more accuracy than the...

Theoretical NPSHr or Theoretical Nss calculations

I don't have a test value of NPSHr. I am looking for an way to calculate theoretical NPSHr based on geometry alone. I of course can do that with the equation above if I can find an imperical formula that estimtes Nss in terms of inlet and exit flow area and impeller angles.

Theoretical NPSHr or Theoretical Nss calculations

Does anyone have a equation for calculating the Theoretical Suction Specific Speed or NPSHr of an impeller based on its geometry?

    Linear pump/reciprocating pump

If you size the charge pump for the maximum instantaneous flowrate (for a single acting piston pump this would be twice the flowrate, since 50% of the time the piston is moving backwards not producing flow) then you will maintain a constant pressure on the piston pump inlet and will not have any...

    Linear pump/reciprocating pump

The effects on performance... The purpose of the charge pump to a reciprocating pump is simple to ensure that the pump has adequate suction to avoid cavitation. Request and NPSHr curve from the manufacture to establish how much head is required at the suction of the pump. Since...

    Linear pump/reciprocating pump

Charge Pump Sizing 1) Flowrate: Size the flowrate of the centrifugal charge pumps for 150% of the reciprocating pump’s flowrate. For example if the reciprocating pump's flowrate is 200 GPM then the CP pump should be sized for 300 GPM. 2) Impellor Size & Motor Speed: Charge pumps are not a...

Sealing NGL in a Reciprocating Pump

I would use a double packed stuffing box with a leak detection system for NGL service. This configuration has a primary packing configuration followed by a pressure switchgage and then a secondary packing system. Once the primary packing begins to fail, the pressure switchgage will trip...

    Cobra Test Simulation?

It could be anything. It could be a company standard written by someone like the Cobra Oil & Gas Refinery, an acronym for something like a "Coolant Boiling in Rod Arrays" Simulations Test, or even a language barrier. For example in Spanish a "cobra" test would mean something to the effect of a...
