Pennpiper,
That sounds like taking short cuts.
What if the next owner of the equipment spots the higher design pressure and makes the decision for whatever reason to increase the operating pressure?
An Engineer may not go looking through the design manuals (if they still exist) because they...
Putting all of ASME on Spreadsheet took 6 weeks. Including WRC 107 and Zicks saddles calcs etc, etc. I then checked it against a ripped off software for my first few projects. (It amazes me how there are simple errors in commercial software.)
As JStephen says, adding options is the tricky...
If you are most interested in stresses caused by loads on nozzles or support pads etc, ASME VIII div 1 doesn't address them. However it does refer you to WRC 107.
I have never been able to get my head around WRC 107, but PD 5500 Appendix G is similar and has some good expanations of the theory...
Olatz,
As I understand it Div 1 contains simple rules for designing pressure vessels relatively quickly.
Div 2 contains advanced rules for designing pressure vessels. i.e. FEA, fatigue analysis etc.
It also contains alternative methods of designing pressure vessels. These methods typically...
PD 5500 Appendix G may help you. It is similar to WRC 107.
It has rules for long doubler pads (which is similar a to tengential nozzle). You'll have to put your thinking hat on and read the appendix carefully to decide if your tangential nozzle is equivilant to a long doubler pad.
I am trying to specify the material for door handles and no stress lugs etc.
ASTM A516 is plate. What is the equivilant for bar? ASTM A675???
What is the spec for general purpose readily availible round and flat bar for vessel handles and attachments etc?
Thanks,
bhushan76,
What if this isn't a reputed fabricator?
I would expect a good fabricator to take a look at external custom designed components like davit arms. But what about an average fabricator.
I have never come across a fabricator that checks the designs of complete externally designed...
This is a joke, right?
Why are people halping this amature that has no idea what he is doing.
edison,
Get someone who knows what they are doing to design it. Not a group of some random online strangers.
I prefer spreadsheets as they are more customisable. Once upon a time we did manual calcs so if you are a true professional then you will put in the extra time to make sure they are correct.
Using comercial software you can quickly become a lazy number cruncher that doesn't fully understand...
Hi Raydel,
If you are going to attempt to sell your software in this forum could you atleast also provide some useful information relating to the threads topic.
As I said, PVElite is 'not very good' at handling Studded pads.
The question is:
For PD 5500, can the alternative pressure area...
I design allot of set-in studded pads into vessels. Under internal pressure I use the alternative pressure area method.
However I now have a project with external pressure. Can I use the pressure area method for external pressure? My 3rd party design appraiser says go for it, however PD...
