Thank you all for your responses. With your input I have concluded the following:
1. Choose the standard your manufacturers understand.
2. The decision between ISO and ASME is a non-issue.
3. Most of thw world outside the USA uses ISO.

The company I work for has design groups and manufacturing locations in the U.S., Europe and Japan. Our past practice is to use cutting plane lines per ASME standards but some of our European and Japanese design group prefer cutting plane lines per ISO.

We have a rule that all non-interchangeable changes require a revision level change for the purpose of supply chain management.
Definitions:
Non-Interchangeable means for one reason or another (physical incompatibility, differences in performance or durability, internal differences in...
I've reached the following conclusion based on (and paraphrasing) the above comments:
-It is acceptable but not necessarily desirable to mix ordinate and other types of dimensioning. This requires judgment on the part of the designer/drafter.
In order to guide the designers/drafters where I...
I have printed out everyone's comments and will sit down with ASME Y14.5M to make sure I understand what everyone is saying. Some dimentioning methods were described above in ways unfamiliar to me, and I need to understand restrictions on mixing dimensioning methods. Thank you for all the...
Is anyone aware of a "pattern language" for drawings? I am trying to define the characteristics of a quality drawing. Here are some things I've come up with so far:
Drawing/Design Pattern Language:
-Clear and unambiguous
-Completely defines part/assembly
-Drawn for ease of part inspection...
When is ordinate dimensioning appropriate and when is it inappropriate?
My initial throughts are:
APPROPRIATE USE:
-Flat plate
-Single horizontal origin and single vertical origin
-?
INNAPROPRIATE USE:
-Hole patterns
-?
Please offer your thoughts.

Thank you for your comments.
The tube ends are flared and the contact surface is on the flare. The "ORFS FLANGE" figure on page 1 at the following link shows an example. http://www.parker.com/tfd/fittingsolutions/TUBEPR.pdf
The three straight lengths are 9" to 12" long and this...

Thanks for your comments.
The tube is 1/2" diameter and has ORFS fittings on both ends. The tube is "U" shaped with the "A" end connected to a straight fitting on the side of a transmission. The tube runs horizontal to the left, vertical, and then horizontal to the right and...

We are using SAE J2551 (Recommended Practices for Fluid Conductor Metallic Tubing Applications)recommended total true position tolerance for hydraulic tubes so tolerances should be loose enough.
In the past, we specified true position tolerance at the "B" end of the tube and IMPLIED...
Is there a recommended method for specifying datums on formed tubing, such as formed hydraulic tubing or formed exhaust tubing. I care about the profile along the length of the tube and I care about the location of the ends with respect to each other.
