I just got my copy and it seems to be as powerful as advertised. B&K were awesome. Went to Norcross for a couple days of training on it. There are some things I don't seem to be very adept at yet, and wondered if any of you guys can share any tips of the trade.
Cheers,
Tom
Okay, in my opinion, the problem statement lacks sufficient data. While everyone has done a marvelous job of interpreting the question and proffering valid advice from that viewpoint, I would like further clarification. Are you asking which rout is better for landing a good job, or for...
Okay ivegotgas, “in my opinion”, there is only one thing in life that trumps your professional commitments, and that is the welfare of your family. If you are a single guy, then, you have to suck it up and ditch the house taking whatever loss that comes because of it. You were offered a job by...
I have designed a basic test stand that requires vacuum to be delivered to two separate test points. I tee-ed directly from the vacuum pump. One line goes to the gauge and one to a pneumatic three-way valve with which I intend to control which test point has vacuum. I am using 1/4" hose and...
VE1BLL,
I'm not sure exactly what the impedence is. We are tapped into leads coming from a test stand, not directly from the synchro. I might be out of my league on this one.
Okay, frustration is setting in. It seems like every time I go near the PAV meter, the dramatic music cues up. After my last brush with this equipment, I determined to figure out how it works and what it actually can measure. I scrounged up an old manual for our dreadfully obsolete unit (NAI...
Thanks Greg.
I was thinking that way too, but wanted to make sure I met Stds if there were any. Anyway, always good to confer with another engineer before telling the boss you're going to spend a lot of money.

Is there anything but concrete between the pad and your house? If not, de-coupling the pad from the house would help some. You could saw a joint all the way throught the concrete and filling the void with some elastomeric material. If the house is already de-coupled, you might try to dampen...
The Hard vs. Smart argument, or more accurately, that there is an argument has always fascinated me.
There is an old story called the Genius and the Idiot that I've always remembered. To wit:
There was once a town in which lived a genius and an idiot. When it came time to elect a new town...
bradpa77,
This is not a design problem per se. It is more of a reactive maintenance problem. You can predict several scenarios and prepare POSIBLE solutions but it would be unwise to commit to one over the others before you have to. e.g. say you are 6 months out. That 6 mos is not a hard...
What a tremendous thread!
Here is some brilliantly rendered wisdom about not wasting time:
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the...
Thanks for the reply.
Yes I understand PtP vs RMS. and the meter is rated for 400Hz. We have two phases, 115VAC there are two pairs of leads one pair for each source.
The argument here was what is the dial actually indicating. By the way I argued for voltage as labled, but I am still kind of...
I need some eith the use of a phase angle voltmeter. I have a test set that calls for measuring between two phases of 115VAC (400Hz). We have a scope set up in conjunction with the meter. First, what exactly does the reading indicate? It is labled "Volts RMS". Does the reading indicate the...
