Safety valves hot water closed loop systems

Hi Does anyone know why we always install safety relief valves in the vertical position? By code I know I have too, but I would like to know why. Thanks

    Ontario Building Code Seismic Restraints

Hi I saw a thread with the same subject from July last year regarding using seismic restraints for piping, ducting etc. I'm dealing with a similar situation and I was wondering if anyone knew if seismic restraints for post disaster buildings applied to all parts of Ontario. Basically a...

Valve Train Steam Boiler for Natural Gas an Propane

Hi Wondering if anyone out there can help! I'm installing new steam and hot water boilers natural gas with propane for backup. Anyone know whether two separate valve trains; one for gas and one for propane is needed? I'm in Ontario Canada, someone told me TSSA(juristiction) likes to have two...

Asme section viii boilers and pressure vessels ug 135 d-1

How could you prove the exchanger is protected by piping relief? My understanding is that if the exchanger is isolated from the the PRV and energy source, there still could be a fire, unexplained source of heat that could cause the exchanger to explode.

Asme section viii boilers and pressure vessels ug 135 d-1

Ok understood Second question: Can you have a isolation valve between the relief and supply of the vessel since it isolates the exchanger thus not affecting the relieving capacity.

Asme section viii boilers and pressure vessels ug 135 d-1

My understanding of ug 125 to 137 is that every PV needs a relief with no block devices between it and the pv except in 135 d-1. I don't completely understand this clause. Can someone provide an example where block devices can be installed. Not counting appendix m

Pressure Vessels Reliefs or System Design Proctection

Unfortunately no threaded plugs for reliefs. There were some for a pressure gauge but that's it. I'll have to continue reviewing the code, there seems to be many interpretations and contradictions within the asme. Not sure why it was written to be so complicated.

Pressure Vessels Reliefs or System Design Proctection

An engineer I work with pointed out to me ASME Boiler and Pressure Code Section VIII Appendix M Installation and Operation M-5(b):Basically it states that a PV with an outside pressure source may have isolation valves between the PV and the relief provided that the isolation valve closes off the...

Pressure Vessels Reliefs or System Design Proctection

Thanks psafety I will contact the insurance agent to see if there is any way to get around this. However, I am only the maintenance contractor for the building I will probably report this to the owner so they can make a proper decision

Pressure Vessels Reliefs or System Design Proctection

Hi I have an installation with 5 shell and tube steam (@85 psi) to hot water heat exchangers used to heat a building. I had an insurance inspector come by for an annual inspection and identify that each individual exhanger was not protected by a safety relief valve on the steam/shell side. I...
