    for extreem pressures you might consider a VOGT gate valve--they have some rated up to 6000psi ---commonly used in NUKE plants

    valve orientations

    The orientation will effect the valve IF it is not a "caged" style valve-the weight of the valve stem will cause wear faster on one side due to the gravitationally assisted friction.

    A floating ball valve is captured between the seats and is litterally floating---this type of valve is generally of smaller size and of lower pressure class since a higher pressure can press the ball into the downstream seat and "unseat" the upstream side. Also really heavy large balls...
