Make sure you have the following set in the custom command:
set mom_sys_helix_pitch_type "none"
and
set mom_kin_helical_arc_output_mode QUADRANT
Those two settings plus having R set to non modal should give you what you want. It works for me at least.

What are the odds of this making it into 7.5.2, or anything earlier than NX8? I am going to guess 'zero', but it doesn't hurt to ask.
