Turns out this is exactly what I was looking for. Once I figured out how it works it was pretty easy. It was simply a matter of selecting all the surfaces, capping the ends, stitching them together, then use the boolean command. Thanks for your help.
Due to the complex curves and thin wall on this part, using a solid block, using the boolean command, and then removing the excess isn't an option. I have never used the inter-part copy before and I now know why, the option is greyed out. All of the options are on in my solid edge options but...
