Perhaps we should focus on the problem at hand. Koopas is asking whether or not missing fasteners are critical for flight dispatch. There is no doubt that the related structure is a critical part of the equation. However, I'm stating that in some cases it can be acceptable, and in others a...

It never hurts to have another certification under your belt. There are quite a few large corporations that favor a six sigma certification (usually black belt, but green belt will do). GE and Delta Airlines to name a few.
Ultimately, you have to decide if it is worth your time...

My experience was to start studying 3 months before the exam. I aquired the MERM (from ppi) and completed approximately 2 chapters a week (there are quite a few you can breeze through). Once completed, I took the NCEES sample exam, graded it, and spent the next week or two brushing...
A common problem on older aircraft is missing rivet heads. Sometimes we can contend that the shank is intact, and can still carry shear loads.
Other times, the use of a blind fastener is required for temporary return to service.

For the April exam, I didn't see results until mid June. On a positive note, when the state website posted that they had mail out results, it was in my mailbox the same day.

AndrewTX has some good points. Just fill out the application keeping in mind the Board's point of view. They understand exactly what an engineer does, so being truthful is not going to get you denied. They are simply looking for relevant engineering experience. This way, you don't...

You can hear all of our school songs. I am partial to White and Gold, and I can say with confidence I have never heard the Alma Mater sung.
Although I can't sing it for you, Gregory Peck has sings the first...
I was just passing through, but I thought I would add that in aviation, a strut is typically a part of the landing gear assembly. But Boeing also calls the engine support a strut. Most other manufacturers call it a pylon.
This may reinforce the belief that a strut provides geometric rigidity...

I'm pretty sure that Seattle Professional Engineer's Association (SPEA) negotiates salaries with Boeing. They went on strike for a few months back in 2001 I think. An engineer for Boeing is not required to join, and Boeing usually matches any salaries for non-union employees.
As for...

I always though that the overhead lines provided both positive and negative connections. Thus the electric busses (such as the ones in Seattle and Dayton) can have rubber tires. The overhead wires provide power to electric motors which drive the wheels.
If what you are saying is...

The MERM is perhaps the best reference you can have. The opening section of the book explains how the exam works (its all English units). I would suggest working each chapter over a long period of time. I set aside about three days per chapter, of course consolidating the first...

I understand your point, and I aggree that it can be difficult to find PE's to put on the application if you work in an industry where PE's are not required. I was in the same situation last year.
However, I believe that if you really want the PE you can, and will, find a way to do it...
