    Electrically insulated hoist hook.

Good to know it can be calculated. Can you point me in the right direction?

    Electrically insulated hoist hook.

I have an application for a hoist with an electrically insulated hook. This has been done several times, with a typical assembly shown in the layout. The insulating material is Garolite, and I've included a list which includes electrical properties. On this particular application I need to...

Changing from DC motor to an AC motor.

Wow. I had stated up front that my DC knowledge was very limited but you all showed me how weak my understanding was. Thank you for your help. As it was, I consulted a motor manufacturer, who just happened to be the supplier on the original job, and was able to find an AC motor to suit. Thanks...

Changing from DC motor to an AC motor.

Sorry, guys. I've had to address other issues so I'm late in answering. I'll have to see what info I can get and reply. Thanks.

Changing from DC motor to an AC motor.

My understanding of DC motors is very limited. A user has a 30 year-old hoist with a 10HP DC motor. He'd like to change to AC. I've done some research and among other things have noted that torque characteristics are different. Is there a way to determine an AC motor to use for roughly...

    Seismic considerations for monorail beam.

Having discussed it with the project manager we determined we will not be able to give the info that was requested.

    Seismic considerations for monorail beam.

Good question. Thus far all I know is that the track is to fail before the building does. I'll net to get more info. The crane is underhung. The special steel section is approx. 3-1/4" wide and our trolleys are made to run on it.

    Seismic considerations for monorail beam.

My company manufactures patented track monorails and cranes. A customer has a rather unusual request for some calculations. Our track is to be installed in a building in a seismic zone, and in case of seismic activity he wants the track to fail before the building does. According to ANSI...

    Estimating fatigue on monorail track

Thanks , everyone, for your input. I'll inform my boss and see how he wants to proceed.

    Estimating fatigue on monorail track

My company manufactures cranes and monorails using patented track. One of our installations has thousands of feet of track and hundreds of 2-wheel trolleys. See the attachment. The customer wants numbers on fatigue of the track. We know the wheel loading and number of trolleys per day which...

Wear of Hardened Roller on Track

Thanks, everybody, for your help thus far. I need to take the info to higher-ups for some discussion.

Wear of Hardened Roller on Track

True, I haven't been to the site. Have seen plenty of photos and videos of the operation, and been told a lot by those who've seen it. the description by dhengr is fairly close to actual operation. Thanks for your input. I'll return after I've put out another fire to which I've been assigned.

Wear of Hardened Roller on Track

The individual 2-wheel trolleys are articulating. In theory both rollers on each trolley would contact the side of the rail. Sorry, my layout doesn't specifically show that.

Wear of Hardened Roller on Track

The attachment is all I can provide. There are straight sections and curves on the monorail. The angle of pull varies as the carrier negotiates curves. The tractor has 2-wheel trolleys with the same guide rollers. It seems as if the wear should be on the outside rollers due to side pull, but...

Wear of Hardened Roller on Track

The rollers on the inside of the curve are wearing. Curve radius is 11'-0" on centerline. Rollers are custom-made for us, with a single row of ball bearings. I have layed out the trolleys, tractor, and curve and have calculated a side pull force. I neglected to mention that there is another...
