    316/316L

Thank you all for the feedback. We were somewhat unfamiliar with this situation as we've not had to use this material at the elevated temperatures that we're dealing with for this design. Between this thread and code interpretations (as mentioned above), we've reached a consensus to move forward...

    316/316L

It's not that I don't believe you, or the salespeople or everyone else who's told me the same thing, but my managers want me to show them some code or reference that spells it out a bit more directly (preferably with regard to the pressure and temp. ratings). Does anyone have a code or material...

    316/316L

thanks for the quick response. which code are you referring to for me to scan for this info? the only info I've found only refers to the chemical composition of the material. have you seen anything that specifically lists pressure/temp. ratings for the dual certified 316?

    316/316L

Hi all, I'm designing a pressure vessel using some 10in NPS pipe, and I would like to know if I can use this kind of material. We have pipe we would like to use that is certified 316/316L. When we checked the boiler and pressure vessel code it lists pressure and temperature ratings for 316...

    Adding extended or compressed springs

How would I add a spring or spring clip to an assembly such that it constrained to the appropriate surfaces and deflected (extended or compressed) as it would be in real life?

    welding

No the leg is not thicker than the thickness of the pipe. I've tried all different leg sizes and all the different types of welds. I can't see to get it to work. Is there a procedure I need to follow to weld the ouside of a curved object to the outside of another curved object? Is there...

    welding

I'm using inventor pro 2008. To clarify: I'm trying to weld a flange to a pipe and I can weld from the top of the flange to the outside of the pipe, but not the inside of the flange to the actual end of the pipe. I also still have that problem with the pipe through a cap. I'll try to post...

    welding

I am having trouble with weldments. There are two cases in particular where I can't seem to get any type of welding to work. The most perplexing one is (even when using standard pipes and flanges provided by the content center) I can't get the inside of the flange to weld to the end of the pipe...

    Auto balloon/bill of materials

Hi all, I am trying to add balloons (calling out part numbers) to a drawing of an assembly and it only lets me add balloons for the three sub-assemblies. Basically it only adds 3 balloons, (A, B, and C) for the sub-assemblies, to the drawing. If I try to annotate any individual parts it fills...

    cutaway view

hi all. I need to ask two questions. first, is it possible to create a drawing file whose base view IS a cutaway view? (I assume in can just place the base view outside of the sheet and print it that way, if I need to) I also need to be able to select certain items to cut away. Specifically...

    backup or auto-save

Hi all, Does anyone know if Autodesk Inventor automatically saves backups of files anywhere, or if there is a setting to turn on automatic save? thanks, Bruno

    tolerance

thanks Paul. I actually started off my engineering career in a manufacturing/tooling company that required it's engineers to start off in the shop. I worked with the tool-makers in the shop for about 6 months, and I think it was very helpful in the reagrd you are talking about.
