    AL-6XN Welding

The reason is that the inside of a vessel requires AL-6XN, however, the CS is an exterior item which corrosion is not a concern. I am aware of the uses of AL-6XN, however, not whether it is acceptable to weld CS to the exterior.

    AL-6XN Welding

Does anyone have a welding procedure for welding AL-6XN to carbon steel?? I have searched our AWS D1.6 for any information and I have also gone to vendors with no luck as of now. I realzize it is not a desirable weld.

    Bridge Collapse in MN

The way this bridge fell... like a rock, not to mention the white-capped turbulent water from the lock, with the photographed pier tilting on the bank.... how is foundation scour not considered? What do we know about the piling beneath the foundations?

    1045 vs. 4340

I have a client asking to use 1045 steel in place of our specified 4340 steel. We require 320-360 BHN and our client assures us he can achieve 280-320 BHN with 1045. From what I've read, this seems unlikely. What is a good source for this type of materials information? Thanks!

    Steel Type

I have a brazilian client specifying SAC 300, SAC 350 and ASTM A588. The A588 is of course no problem, but the SAC 300, I have no clue. Thanks. Has anyone worked with the SAC specification?

    How many engineers have MBA

The ability to confidently and accurately ballpark is so annoying to me (2 yrs experience). I envy the ability and am getting better at it daily... Remember.. good engineers do not necessarily make good managers and good managers do not necessarily make good engineers.

    Going to the Dark Side

I'm not sure who argues more.... engineers or lawyers. At least lawyers get paid to do it.

    Going to the Dark Side

I don't think that's in the US.. You get your accredited degree... take the FE... wait 3,000 years... take the PE. That's it.

    Going to the Dark Side

casseopeia - Thanks... I was getting slammed in this forum (just kidding)(sort of)(not really). How long did you work in industry before you went to law school? Did you obtain your PE? There is an evening program through Duquesne. I could continue working... I know one person who did this...

    Going to the Dark Side

Lawyers and engineers think nothing alike, thus their sleep and acceptance of a system that works some of the time... Engineers could not have designed our system of government and legal system. Being a lawyer is accepting that the legal system is a people business, much the way science and...
