    B8M Class 2 metric

Thanks for the responses, it is appreciated. So I should instead be looking for ASTM F837 Gr1, CW1 or 2 depending on my yeild requirements. I am remain uncertain about your comment on material - can I specify 316 material or is the spec open ended? I expect to need the corrosion resistance of...

    B8M Class 2 metric

Hi all, I am dealing with a spec for 'B8M Class 2' socket head cap screws in 10, 12, 14, and 16mm diameters in a couple of different lengths. My purchasing group says they can't find such a thing. High strength fasteners are a new area for me - is this spec nonsense and these don't exist? If...

New to Marine Design - Suggested Standards to Purchase?

Thanks for the responses. I have been doing on-line searches, wow, there are a lot of standards out there!!! Specifically, please point me to marine codes for piping and pipe mounted equipment as it pertains to ballasting/deballasting in fresh and seawater cargo ships and tankers. Thanks so...

New to Marine Design - Suggested Standards to Purchase?

Hello: My company is in the business of water treament equipment (OEM). We have traditionally been in the industrial/commercial business sectors. We are now looking at designing ballast water treatment equipment for installation on board ocean-going cargo ships. This is completely new to my...

relative machining costs as related to dimensioning style

I think part of what you are experiencing is that computers "think" in decimals - and software, unless specially geared for an industry like Architecture, lives in decimals. Mechanical CAD packages have been primarily set-up in decimal form, though there are exceptions. This issue is doubled...

relative machining costs as related to dimensioning style

I am not aware of a book or convention that covers what you are asking. I do expect a tape measure to be used when I specify fractions, but I then keep in mind that it is not practical to expect accurate measurements if I specify ±1/64" - I stick 1/16ths typically. To build on what unclesyd...

Specifying an SAE port (J1926) - drawing callout

Thanks Ted. This to an external machine shop and could be quoted anywhere from here to China. I just wanted to ensure that I was creating a port callout on a drawing that was to a known convention without being redundant or double specifying or plain confusing. It seems then there is no...

Specifying an SAE port (J1926) - drawing callout

Thanks for the replies. I think I did not explain myself very well, or this question is so novice it would be assumed obvious (I have simply never needed to specify this before). I just want to know exactly how to specify the port callout on the drawing. Sorry for the rudimentary question...

Specifying an SAE port (J1926) - drawing callout

I posted this in the piping forum and was advised to post this here... Hello all: I did a search and did not find what I was wanted, I think this is a simple question: I am createing a drawing where a -8 threaded fitting will be installed and I need to specify to the machine shop what the...

Specifying an SAE port (J1926) - drawing callout

Well, perhaps I have posted in the wrong forum? This is a standard hydraulic fluid power fitting. When doing my initial searches I did find references to this SAE port in this forum. This seemed like the correct forum by description, please direct me if I have made a mistake. Thanks, Ron

Specifying an SAE port (J1926) - drawing callout

Hello all: I did a search and did not find what I was wanted, I think this is a simple question: I am createing a drawing where a -8 threaded fitting will be installed and I need to specify to the machine shop what the machined hole will be. Is it as simple as a leader with "SAE J1926 -8"? I...

manual trans shifting characteristics - the why

Thanks Norm. I have heard (in particular to the original question in this thread) that the internal rail shifting of the tremec is quite a different feel compared to external rod linkages on other transmissions like a Munice or Saginaw. What is your opinion Norm?
