    Engineering Properties - Peat

I just went thru this exercise. Su values can be obtained from "Muskeg Engineering" or a paper by Edil et al "Shear Strength and Ko of Peats and Organic Soils." I would be happy to fax them to you. Of course the best way is to drill borings and perform vane shear testing...

MSE soil parameters for global stability analysis

What value of c and phi are appropriate for the material (compacted sand) in an MSE wall? Obviously the sand must have a phi of about 36 degrees. However, when running a global stability analysis, there must be some theoretical c, otherwise the wall cannot stand vertically. I seem to remember...

    Cv for peat

Does anybody know where I can find Cv values for peat? All the references are vague and only say that primary consolidation should occur rapidly This is a highly fiberous peat from northern IN. Also, I am considering staged construction. Does anybody know of any Cu/p relationships?

    Dynamic Compaction

Give me your fax # and I'll fax you the cover pages for Lukas' 2 references. I often work with Bob Lukas, and he is my consultant when I design dynamic compaction for sites. I can fax his card too.

    Shrinkage of hardwood floor

In my new condo, the hardword floors are developing cracks between the boards. I want to demonstate that the wood was at an unacceptably high moisture content when installed. How can I do this calculation with wood if I can measure the ratio of strinkage divided by wood width?
