Hi leverage,
should be no problems to find firetube boilers for your steam parameters, specially if you want to downsize. The advantage of firetubes are mainly in lower investment costs, and longer service life.
Because of the higher internal water content they are slower in load changes.
Hope...
HRS,
I am afraid you are right. I have just made some very optimistic calculations and found that with available technology it is far to expensive. Anyway it was worth thinking about.
So you think about buying bottled Gas and burn it to drive a stirling engine with generator and use the combustion gas to power an adsorption chiller for AC purpose?
For your generator unit with around 5 kW electrical capacity we talk about Euro 15.00,- to 20.000,- investment.
These units are...
petermeachem,
you did not mention what source your waste heat is coming from. The stirling works on external combustion processes. Unless there is any industrial or commercial activity around producing waste heat you have to burn some kind of fuel to drive your stirling engine.
Hi Petermeachem,
if you think that the capstone microturbine mentioned by davefitz is too expensive for domestic use, better stop investigating in stirling cycle systems unless you are able to tinker your own machine. Stirling engines make sense when your fuel is really cheap like wood, other...
Hi GBurns,
what was the purpose of a pressure test with 25 psig? What I do normally is a leakage test with air slightly above atmospheric pressure ( 0.5 bar ) and check with soap water for leaks at weldings and flanges. The pressure test should be done as hydrotest with water in case of a steam...
Consider that an air cooled condenser is also not maintenance free. Of course you need water treatment if recirculated water and cooling tower is used.Thats why I mentioned low cost cooling water like river water or well water in once through condensors.
Hi refiner,
if the damper was damaged by overheating I am pretty sure that your problem is somewhere at the burner area.I would check again on the fuel supply as mentioned also by combuster.
You mentioned in your thread that the flue gas duct was overheated and the damper damaged. Was the damper damaged by overheating?
One way to check for tube fouling during operation is to compare product mass flow and inlet/outlet temp with recordings before the problem.
Hi refiner,
can you give some more information about the furnace itself. There are acording to my experience 2 main reasons for high flue gas temp. Increase in energy input like higher flame temp.,increased fuel capacity etc. Or reduction of heat transfer due to tube fouling (deposits), change...
Hi sheenders,
water has big advantage from the thermodynamic point of view. When cooling water is available at low cost,I would prefer water cooled chillers.Of course it depends on the climatic conditions your plant is situated to give qualified advice concerning the most economical way.
For...
Steam drum design can not be done by rule of thumb or any tables. It depends very much of the boiler type and of course the boiler capacity.I don´t think it is very helpful to give any figures like m3/t of steam produced.
