The Type HH/Heterodyne cable is interesting but is different than what I'm looking for. Type HH is completely hollow, with lapped and helically wound outer conductors that ends up making it look kind of like a pipe.
The stuff we have is generally just a stranded copper cable, but the...
Hi there;
We've got some 1940s era copper phase conductors (500 MCM) up on a 230 line that have solid CU exterior strands but hollow CU internal strands. Nobody really knows anything about it, so I was hoping to see if any Eng Tips users are familiar with this conductor. Maybe have a spec sheet...
Thanks for the link. All the NxtPhase stuff I've seen has been the standard column type.
I've got some office guys here who swear they saw a clamp-on application that I guess they think actually hangs from the conductor or something. They think they saw this in T&D mag.
Anyone seen/heard of...
I've got the chance to attend an EMTP-RV training session, but the catches are that the training is less than six weeks away and, oh yes, I also know NOTHING about the subject. No one will be asking me to run cases when this is all over, but I would like to have a decent beginner's understanding...
I'm curious to see what people think about the general topic of professional society attendance, in this case specifically related to local functions.
I attend the meetings both to network with industry people and also to just have the occasional good technical conversation. In addition, I...
Thanks for the comments, dpc, they gave me some food for thought and further research. It turns out that the group wanting the steel for shielding was basing this on some tests they did a few decades ago. Once things slow down a bit they're going to get out in this station, bring a scope, and...
It's that time again... Round N^1983248 of Eng vs Maint. In this corner we have 'steel cable trench lids for shielding control cable' and in the other we have 'concrete lids to reduce decapitations.'
I'm curious just generally if any of the eng-tips members hvae experience with choosing lids...
Thank you for the replies.
I have found out that this batch we would be getting would only be the third batch of switches at this class (yes, 230,000 V) Turner has made, with the other two runs apparently not installed yet.
Per regulations, in situations like these we abandon any hope of...
"There will be a five dollar charge for answering any question you could have Googled yourself."
Written on the whiteboard just outside the door to my cubicle. Sometimes I idly wonder how many people have turned away to try it themselves before coming in to ask something.
I'm trying to get some maintenance and performance history on these disconnects (preferably in the 230 kV range) and calls to several utilities have not turned up anyone that's ever even heard of them. If you know of someplace that has or has had some in service, it would be very helpful. Thanks...
Hmm...
"Due to the fact that IEEE Transformers Committee members participating in the development of NEMA copyrighted C57 documents are not indemnified by NEMA... we find it necessary to cease our work on the following documents:
ANSI C57.12.10...."
Helpful ;-)
Will continue looking...
I've seen some transformer specifications that use C57.12.10-1997, even though these devices are 167MVA and the referenced standard says it only goes up to 100MVA. I searched but could not find a similar standard at the same voltage classes for bigger transformers.
Anyone out there know whether...
