Using the Solidworks to Mastercam converter.

I believe the problem is that MasterCam has not updated to the latest version of the parasolid kernel yet. That should be happening with their next update but you should call your tech guy to confirm this.

Compatiblity of Inventor with other design programs??

Hi sstrik, Yes, SolidWorks can open an *.ipt file directly. The point I was trying to make in regards to dumb solids is that not only does SW bring in more file types but it also has the ability to add the history back in. Of course you can also add more features but the key is being able to...

Compatiblity of Inventor with other design programs??

I think drobbi is way off base here. SolidWorks can open ALL major CAD formats including Step, IGES, Pro/E, Solid Edge and Inventor files directly. Inventor does not open as many file formats. Also, SolidWorks also has the ability to add features to "dumb" solids without the use of...

    Using Wood Materials with Photoworks

To rotate the wood grain, you need to edit the material for that face. Then go to the "Displacement" window in the dialog box. Near the bottom is a "rotate" box, type in the angle of rotation and "Apply". It works best I've found if you apply materials to a face...

    Revisions with PDMWorks

PDMWorks requires that users sign in and keeps a history of the file so if someone checks in a document, PDMWorks records who checked it in and when. As long as people aren't signing on as someone else the system works well.

    Revisions with PDMWorks

Hi, PDMWorks will allow you to check in any wondows based document, so I guess the answer is yes. As long as your ECNs are windows based you should be fine. You can also check in all of your old non-SW drawings such as AutoCad.

Compatiblity of Inventor with other design programs??

Hi, Inventor doesn't seem to be very friendly at opening other CAD formats although it should open iges. unfortunately it doesn't give you the option of modifying the existing features since the iges file is brought in as a dumb solid. SolidWorks has the ability to open alot more different...

what is cheapest video card to run SW 2001/2003 well?

Hi Dant, I would recommend you look into the Nvidia Quadro series. They are available for around $250 and run great.

    SolidWorks freezes at random

Hi KEmroll, It sounds like the problem is your graphics card. The GeForce family is not a great card for solid modeling. I used to use a 64meg Geforce2 and experienced similar issues. If you want to stay with Nvidia, move to the Quadro series. The SW website lists all the cards that have...

    Drawing numbering system

A PDM system takes alot of the burden off your shoulders. SolidWorks offers a number of different choices and it's worth looking into.
