How to define an elasto-plastic material from XY data points

Rob, Thanks for the help. Yep this looks like what I want. Thanks for your time, Best Regards, Philip

How to define an elasto-plastic material from XY data points

Hi, I have read through the chapter in the manual about declaring a plastic material property, but I cannot seem to find how to define a non-linear elastic non-linear plastic material, for which I have XY data points (stress-strain) and I know the yield point. Using the plastic material...

How does Abaqus interpolate material properties between two elements?

Hi mrgoldthorpe, Thank you for your reply. I normally work with finite volume and so am not that familiar with FE. OK so the interface node displacements depend on the adjoining cell properties. I get the general idea but I would like to understand FE better, is there any online source you...

How does Abaqus interpolate material properties between two elements?

Hi, How does Abaqus interpolate material properties between at the interface between two cells of different properties? I have read through much of the analysis manual on material but I cannot seem to find anything on how the interface between two different materials is treated. I have...

Apply a force/displacement to a point on a deformable body

Thanks for your help Gurmeet, I think I have figured out how to do what I want now. Thanks again, Philip :)

Apply a force/displacement to a point on a deformable body

Hi, How do i apply a force/displacement to a point on a deformable body? For example, my model (in 2D) is a deformable circle on a rigid ground, and I want to roll the circle along the ground. Thanks in advance for anyone's help, Philip

What is the reference point on a rigid body for?

Ah I see, I was just a bit confused by it, but it seems all clear now. Thanks for your help. :)

What is the reference point on a rigid body for?

Thanks for your help, Sorry for maybe asking basic questions but I've tried my best to find it in the manual but I just don't understand why a rigid body needs a reference point to apply a restraint to it? Philip

What is the reference point on a rigid body for?

Hi, What exactly is the reference point on a rigid body for? I am trying to do a contact model of a deformable solid with a rigid body sheet, but it won't let me run an analysis unless I define a reference point for the rigid body? In addition, it requires the rigid body sheet to have a mesh...

    Hertz Contact Stresses

I found in the abaqus benchmark solution for hertz contact solution in the interactive manual at: http://boston.we.mtu.edu:2080/v6.7/books/bmk/default.htm I downloaded the first 2D input file and then ran it, but I didn't get the same solution as the one shown, does anyone know why?

    Hertz Contact Stresses

Thanks for your help. I'll try halving my model and applying symmetry conditions and hopefully that'll help. I'll let you know. I really don't think it's a mesh problem though, as the mesh is very fine at the contact, and it is perfect quads. The cylinder (slave) mesh is far more refined than...

    Hertz Contact Stresses

Here's a picture of the deformation scaled by 100. If you need any other of the stresses, just let me know.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=678216ed-f460-47c2-a2ee-a92bf799e8af&file=Abaqus_-_Deformation_scaled_up_by_10.png

    Hertz Contact Stresses

I've attached a picture of the von Mises Stresses that I'm getting. The top object is the hemi-cylinder, and the bottom is the brick. Thanks for your help.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=5988e45a-f024-4158-96ba-d1a615c08337&file=Abaqus_-_von_Mises.png

    Hertz Contact Stresses

Hi, I have been trying to model a hemi-cylinder in contact with a brick in 2D, as in the hertz solution for contact stresses. I fix the bottom of the brick from moving and i apply a pressure to the top of the hemi-cylinder. But I keep getting two peak tensile stresses at the edge of the...

Tips on simple 2D contact model

Hi, I am quite new to abaqus, and am more familiar with finite volume methods. I am trying to create a 2D contact problem in abaqus (see attached pic). I am putting a uniform pressure on the top surface of the hemicircle and am constraining the bottom of the brick. I have ran a few different...
