This is a question that I have tried hard to find a legitimate answer for, I hope you can help. It relates to large vehicles with stud centered wheels, where the common practice is to use left hand thread studs on the left had side of the vehicle. The common wisdom is that there is a...
Is there a way to calculate or predict the self-centering effect of castor? My vehicle in question is a bus, castor is set at 2.7 degrees, wheel/tire weighs roughly 250 lbs and tire OD is 42". I am wondering what the scale of self-centering force is, and how one would describe it?
thanks, Brian
Thanks guys. the consensus seems indeed to be shear thinning of the viscosity improvers. What would cause this? The DD has all accessory drives with gears, no chains, and there are a lot of them. it's also a two stroke - there are five piston rings and oil squirters for the bottom of the...
I also posted this on the Engine forum, since this one seems to see little activity. I hope that's OK.
I'm trying to find out the root reason why Detroit Diesel two stroke engines require, to this day, mono-grade engine oil, normally straight 40 weight. Empirical evidience, supported by...
