    Valve Body Welded Nozzle Design

A customer is asking me to design a nozzle welding to a forged valve body. The thickness T1 of the valve body is large overdesigned. OD2 and T2 (see attachment) are NPS & SCHEDULE of a standard pipe, and the schedule is the same of the main valve (Valve 12" #2500 SCH.160 -> Nozzle NPS 1"...

    Rating for special materials?

Hi Sweguy, you are right. Materials like UNS N05500 or A182 F60 are all in my material list approved by our notified body. In any case all valve manufacturer produce today pressure retaining parts (like body & bonnet) in F60, but we have no idea about the pressure/temperature rating. Today we...

What is "Fail Safe" valve design

Please can you explain me what is the FAIL SAFE design for a standard API Slab Gate Valve? Thank you

    Rating for special materials?

Thank you franen. You have explained exatly my problem! Mechanical properties of special materials at the different temperature are impossible to find. I always search this kind of data, but if the material is not included in ASME II-D or in some EN standard the game is over.

    Sandy-Service : API-17D vs API-14D (Cancelled)

API 14D was cancelled in 1999. API 17D defines 2 “SERVICES”: Standard service and SANDY SERVICE. Standard service is completely defined in API 17D. API 17D doesn’t give info about the sandy service, the standard says that for sandy service we have to look at API 14D. But what we can do if the...

External Pressure Test API 17D: ôActual or Simulatedö

Hi, API 17D speaks for “actual or simulated” external pressure for the valve-actuator assembly test. Do you know what “actual or simulated” mean? Do I need really to test the valve when external subsea pressure is applied? Thanks

What is a Swing Check SubSea Valve?

Thank you BigInch, but I work for a valve manufacturer, to that Cameron is now my fist competitor. I don't want to buy the valve but I want to design a new product!!!! By

What is a Swing Check SubSea Valve?

A Customer is asking ma a swing check subsea valve. The thecnical specification is not really clear, all the design is referred to API 6D. Only the coating spec. is special. Do you have experience of standard subsea check valves? There are some special features in the design or a swing check...

    Rating for special materials?

How can I know the rating (Similar to ASME B16.34 or EN12516-1) of special materials like: ASTM A182 F60 ASTM A182 F316 Ti MONEL K500 UNS N05500 CW-6MC -N7M Thanks!!!

What is a "Self Venting Plug"???

A Custumer ask me a Self Venting Plug on a valve equipped with low emission packing. This Plug help to measure the lakage rate of the valve packing. I really don't know that it is. Do you know? Thank you

17Cr for high temperature valve stem

Basically, the theoretic material temperature range is the range of A182 F91 ASME VIII, the max allowable temperature for this standard is 1200°F (650°C). But 600°C is ok for me too. Thanks

17Cr for high temperature valve stem

OK, Thanks S17400 is not the right material for high temperature service. Work Temperatures after 400°C is cause of spinodal decomposition of the martensite phase. Anybody know the yeld stress og Grade 616 at temperature (400°-600°C)???? Maybe this material can be correct, but I don't find the...

17Cr for high temperature valve stem

Hallo everybody! I know that a lot of valves manufactures use for high pressure sevice the 17Cr material for the valve stem (as alternative to 13Cr / F6). As 17Cr i know only the 1.4122, but i don't find any ASME/ASTM equivalence. What ASTM material can I use for this scope???? I need a stem...

Metal to Metal Seal of Wedge Gate Valves

Hi For my experience as Valve Designer a gate valve stem has to support 3 major types of forces: Seat Friction ( pressure and wedge angle depending) – Packing Friction – Hydrostatic Force. But for a Stem Thrust equal to the force sum I don’t have any well seal, because I need an additional...

Metal to Metal Seal of Wedge Gate Valves

Metal to Metal Seal of Wedge Gate Valves How can I consider the additional preload needed in the seat-gate valve system to maintain the compressive load on a STELLITE (Seat HF - Wedge HF / Roughness Ra=0.2 lapp) seal surface after internal pressure is applied. Can I use for this problem the...
