Some state agencies, such as Dept of Mines, may have topo online.
Some colleges and universities have topo online - esp. schools with geology or geography programs.
You will need to check the local codes (town, city or county) as well. The localities may have a stricter code for erosion and sediment control, and stormwater than the state code. Most cities or towns will have codes on parking, landscaping, street grades, etc., as well.
The lengths of flows depend on the watershed (or topo lines)
Generally, the max length for sheet flow is considered to be 200' (sometimes up to 300') , but you may find that the reviewing agency will only accept 150' or 100' as the maximum. Then the flow becomes a shallow concentrated flow, and...
I think this is a great idea. I know one guy who is under 40 who has LS and PE. Get the LSIT and EIT completed, then get the LS seal. As noted, you may have to switch firms, but it will be valuable for you and the firms for you to have both.
Okie,
Lots of good advice here. Yogi is right.. don't get anxious or rattled. I think that can be a major problem for some - it was a bit of a problem for me.

I graduated from an Engineering Technology program. I did not have to take any additional classes, but had to have 6 years of work experience for the exam. Everytime I hear the master's degree before the PE mentioned, I ask
" why not make everyone WORK 6 years before the PE? "
The 48G is really a nice calculator. I used it on the FE several years back, ended up using a simple TI on the PE.
I also have the 33S - I really don't like using it much...
I want to re-iterate (3) from civilperson - read those local codes. You may find in some areas that you can go slightly flatter - I have seen 0.5% pass as a bare minimum on a longitudinal grade, and 10% as a max in a mountainous area. Talk to the plan reviewers if you need to do that, to make...
I found the Six Minute Solutions books very helpful. If you buy them and the Exam Cafe, you will notice that sections of Exam Cafe are a rehash of the Six Minute Solutions books.
Be sure to check the errata for the Six Minute books.
I did not think the Exam Cafe was all that great - there are...
You may find a firm that would like to hire you part-time.
I have worked for 2 firms that had PEs on as part-timers.
You may find yourself very busy!!
I think you could take on some of the smaller projects as a one-man operation, then get it QA'd by the firm. On the other hand, you could do...
