Hi,
I'm a new IE/ME engineer and I've been asked to do some justifications for new machines. Some of the savings I can easily quantify, for example reduced run times, reduced scrap, but I'm having issues with quantifying the cost of excessive lead time.
For example one of the new machines could...
Hi,
I'm having trouble with the hole tool. I'm trying to create a through hole on a cylindrical part and for some reason it won't take. Everything in the preliminary steps looks good.
I've uploaded a video detailing my problem.

I'm also following this...
I was wondering what the difference between the two is and why I should use them.
I've defined global plys but they just end up looking like material definitions. Why couldn't I just define the ply as a materials and create the layup with the material definition?
I'm confused why global ply...
Hi.
I'm switching industries from vehicle engineering to bioengineering. I had some questions and was looking for basic guidance to get me started the right way.
First and foremost, whats the specific difference between bioengineering, biomechanical and biomedical? I see the terms used a lot...
I tried offsetting the surfaces but I still run into a problem where the very top of the extrusion isn't terminated by the body or any surface. Now that you told me about surfaces though I'm going to see if there's a way I can offset the surface parallel to the surface face rather than...
Thanks! I didn't even know there was a surfaces tab until you showed me.
Attached is a picture of the part I'm trying to model. It's some clip that came with a TV my dad bought and I thought it would be good to learn how to model it.

Attached is the Sldprt. I'm using SW2011
"Try copying the surfaces of interest (e.g. offset w/ zero distance), then extrude up to the surface body. "
What do you mean by copying surfaces of interest? Thanks for the tips!

I tried this but it says the body doesn't terminate the extrusion. I'm guessing the top part which isn't stopped by the body is causing the error.

Hi,
I'm trying to extrude a rectangle to a set of faces but depending on which one I pick, the extrusion matches one and falls short of the other, or the extrusion matches the one and goes through the other.
How can I get it to extrude flush to a set of faces, not just one.
I've attached a...
Hey guys,
Currently I have a Solidworks Associate level worth of cad practice but I would like to become an expert with parametric tools, Solidworks especially. Do companies usually support learning on the job or do most of them expect you to have knowledge coming in?

Thanks for all the responses guys.
I think the experience factor is going to be the hardest skill to develop.
I use Mathcad all the time now, it's makes both the documentation and presentation a cinch. I'm somewhat worried that I'll eventually end up missing a bug in the software but I suppose...
I'm about to move from a shielded intern environment to a position with more responsibility and I'm worried I'm gonna get things wrong.
Simple examples of this are messing up a callout on a drawing, or perhaps miscalculating some parameter. Being humans were going to mess up something time to...
I'm trying to make a Rib in a U shaped part but Solidworks keeping telling me it wont intersect the part but the arrow is pointed in the right direction. I've attached a picture of what I'm trying to do. Any tips are greatly welcome.

I've been looking for a position that would pair me with a mentor in the automotive material field but the search has been largely fruitless. Besides finding relatively little jobs for automotive materials, compared to jobs for vehicle dynamics, most I've found require 5+ years of experience...
