Hi all,
I'm looking to plate a piece of Invar 36 with a low reflectivity black surface similar to a black anodize for aluminum. Also needs to be a low-outgassing apporoach.
Any suggestions and/or specifications to call out?
Thx.
Hi all,
I'm fastening a pallet with about 8000 lbs of equipment on it to the inside of a standard ISO shipping container. I plan on using the t slot flooring that is in place in the container to fasten to using some custom t bolts I am making up.
My question is how do I calculate the # of tie...
I am looking at spinnning some very lightweight stuff in a large range from say 1 rpm to 500 rpm. I want a DC motor but I know that I won't be able to get below a certain point if I get a 5000 rpm motor. I am thinking of using a gearbox to get down that low, but am looking for suggestions on...
I have a aluminum plate that is 2mm thick, diam 1.5 inches. I am screwing it down with four 2-56 screws into another aluminum plate underneath. Between the two plates is a polystyrene plate, same diameter, 1mm thick. this compresses against several small lenses to keep them in place. I want...
Hello all,
I just graduated and started my first engineering job as a mechanical engineer for a defense company. I of course have all my old textbooks, plus Marks Handbook and Machinist's handbook. My question is, where do I go or how to I find such things as screw quick reference cards...
Hello all,
I am looking for some information and examples on dimensioning drawings of parts made on Solidworks. I would like something on the web and I am looking for industry standards, not solidworks standards. Does anyone have any good reference sites or recommendations?
Thanks,

Servocam,
Thanks for the input. First, I guess I mistyped in saying it was a cube. It is square in both x and y, 36 inches, but height is probably only two or three inches. The other thing is the motion profile. It is a pointing system so I will input into a computer move up three degrees...
I am trying to figure out the inertia of an object that will be turned by a motor. I want to keep the ratio of inertias below 10:1 and am given that the motor inertia has units of oz-in^2. What kind of inertia is this and how do I calculate it for my object? I have never seen this combo of...
A couple of more things I think are needed. A flexure along the axis resists torque in either direction with 100 ft-lbs. This is for a positioning simulation so the motor will be required to rotate to a point, hold, and then rotate some where else. The companies I have looked at for motors...
Hi,
I am trying to choose a motor for a project and need some help choosing the corect one. I am given that a 3x3 foot table is to be rotated about an axis with the table weighing 200 lbs. The speeds are very, very slow and I am looking for a resolution of about 100urad (using an encoder)...
I have a three axis shaker table being used for some simulations and currently the x and y axises are controlled with linear voice coil actuators on opposite edges of the 3 foot square table in a push-pull configuration. This works well until about plus minus 2 degrees is reached and then the...
SMS,
Thanks for the help. This table is to support several flexures that have an optics table on top. Acutuators attached to the table will provide tilt in the x and y directions. We just want to make sure that the frequency is higher than the one that we will be opporating with...
Hi, I am trying to figure out what to use to insulate a telescope. the operating conditions are between 40 and 100 Farenheit. The telescope is built of approximately half an inch thick Carbon fiber material. I want to make the time constant as long as possible so when I take the telescope...
