Website Forum for CAD Drafting Contractors

I've seen websites out there for drafters working as contractors. I can't find any now of course. Not Craigslist. The Reason why I'm asking is a friend of mine has been custom building homes for 40 years. He's now specialized to cottage vacation homes. He drafts everything by himself by...

Loss of Pressure in Water Main

The system is fed from a town water supply. All the gate valves, that were visible to inspectors, were checked to make sure in open position. I know atleast one gate valve was not operable. I don't know if the road box was broken or valve wouldn't turn. I'll check more into gate valve...

Loss of Pressure in Water Main

Thanks for all your comments. The pipe that runs to the bathroom is a 2" PVC and this pipe does lose pressure on the weekends, when demand is high. But the pressure returns within 24 hours mysteriously, but only after the bathrooms are closed for a while. The main water pipe which the 2"...

Loss of Pressure in Water Main

Will an air pressure relieve valve work to restore water pressure in a water main? A service line running from the main going to a bathroom at a campground, keeps going offline at peak usage on the weekends. The bathmroom is most likely a high point in the water system elevation. Should...

    Ever Relocate for a Job?

As a civil engineer, I was recently offered a job in the pacific Northwest and turned the offer down because my spouse didn't want to move. Anyone else moved across the country for a pay raise or better job? I have a feeling that I don't want too many eggs in one basket. And on the other...

    Working in LA for reconstruction

Is anyone working in LA for related FEMA disaster relief and cleanup in Engineering? I'm thinking of applying for a job where you would be stationed in LA. The position is with a larger engineering firm hiring temp workes with daily reimbursement for lodging. I'm interested in an engineer's...

Graduating soon but with poor GPA...

I graduated with a B.S. in civil engineering. My GPA was around 2.4. I worked all through college and was in a Fraternity. Needless to say my activities sometimes got in the way of my studies. I pulled a 3.0 my last year and did a Summer Intership. I landed my first job from a friend of...

    Detension Ponds on flat sites?

Try constructing multiple smaller ponds. Add the rates to determine the peak rates. I saw a homeowner plant a garden in a portion of a detention basin once. Proximatey to homes does have to be considered, but generally detention basin aren't that much of nuisance.

    Earthwork Calculation Discrepancy

I just performed an earthwork calculations using Carlson SurvCAD on a small site less than an acre site. I also used the average end area method. The SurvCAD amount was 6% greater than the average end area method.

ground water flow into detention pond

I work in the North East U.S. and designed a detention basin were the contractor blasted about 10 feet into exising ledge to construct the basin. A perimeter drain was installed to intercept ground water flow into the basin. The perimeter drain worked a little too well! The Grounder water...

    inadequate EIT training

The firm I work for just hired a PE with no land development experience and no AutoCAD experience. I'm designer who recently took my PE exam last October. I'm a little incensed that I've been in "trenches" for past five years to get my PE. The License doesn't really carry as much weight when...

Bridge paving Bit. or Cem. Concr.

Everyone use to ask me if I design bridges when I tell them my profession. I used to say no, but recently I've been specifying the Conspan Bridge product. So I do design them! (at least with hyrology and grading) Any advages to cement concrete pavement over bituminous concrete pavement...
