Hi Octane fuel in regular engines

OK Thanks, Thats the kind of information I needed for reassurance. Motto from this: Why make things complicated?

Hi Octane fuel in regular engines

Why do they recommend hi octasne fuel in regular engines? They say it will clean out the cylinders/carb. Others say for an engine designed for regular fuel(unleaded) it is just a waste of money. Does the higher compression engines actually burn this higher octane. How high has the compression...

    propane gensets

Yes I agree with all the above. Is not the propane "fuel/firing system hotter than diesel at higher KW therefore becoming a less reliable engine. However at small engine sizes this doesn't matter so much.

    propane gensets

At what KW will a diesel genset become more reliable than a proipane fired genset? I've heard over 500KW for power generation but below this its about the same except for thier inherent advantages and disadvantages.

    soft starter inrush

I think I'll go ahead with a soft start as it is the same price as an across the line starter anyways. If it can pull down the spike to 2.75 times starting or less than 13 times inrush, then that will be the benifit to the electronics in the building. The utility won't have any questions which...

    soft starter inrush

Is there any point in putting a soft start for a motor which only starts at no load? (The application is a magnetic coupled adjustable speed drive controlled fan which starts it at no load) Is there not a spike whether I have a soft start or not? Also- will the soft start let through the...

    Physics of motor startup

Just to deviate a little further to get to it: Is there any point in putting a soft start for this motor which only starts at no load? (The application is a magnetic coupled adjustable speed drive controlled fan which starts it at no load) Is there not a spike whether I have a soft start or not?

    Physics of motor startup

Does all this mean that at no load starting for an say 100HP induction squirral cage motor -the inrush is going to be low or negligable( Won't dim the lights)?

    ground system testing

JTK, I hear you saying I need a TDR meter of sorts to locate/trace the ground cables. Thats fine, I can do that. I have access to the grounding layout plans as well. However I've heard that using a meggar instrument to test the resistance at different corners of the one building you can find...

    ground system testing

Does anyone have any experience locating faulted (broken) ground wires on a primary ground system of a good size multi building plant site? I mean about one million sq ft. total. the grid doesn't extend across that area but for each building only. There are about 10-15 structures. The primary...

2MVA dry transformer moisture issue - future reliability?

Thanks for all the fairly detailed information. I checked on the inspection report and it says there are cracks in the varnish on the insulation. I know that the history has not been severe, only one secondary breaker failing due to a short/surge. So we plan to send the transformer to a shop...

2MVA dry transformer moisture issue - future reliability?

I have a 30 year old 2 MVA dry type transformer that was sitting for 4 years resulting in moisture in the insulation. It was tested and failed the megger test indicating moisture. I would like to dry out the windings and retest but is it worth it? What is the prediction of reliability of the...

    THD and ground fault trip

Thanks for the tips, I'll go to work on it. Regards,

    THD and ground fault trip

It is a 15A feeder. I agree that the second ground fault trip unit in series which was applied by a contractor before my time to stop the main breaker for the switchboard from tripping all the time is abit missapplied. The reason for this still is that the switch feeding this 1000KVA sub...

    THD and ground fault trip

Further to above I should take back what I said about return current being 6mA. What I was referring to was the charging current for the NGR calculated from the various cable impedances. Regards,
