Can You Top This? Extremes in Non-Ethical Behavior

One I know of that happened sometime back now, happened something like this: 2 Electrical Planners set themselves up a contracting business Then, from their "day-job" let contracts to themselves. To really do a "good" job of it, the quoted prices included materials The PO was sent out...

Connection of structural steel with stainless steel

Generally, I agree with csd72. Avoid it if you can by bolting and insulating. If not, a qualified welding inspector to provide a written strict procedure is a must. I have seen many so-called "non-critical" stainless to stainless welds done that are poor enough (usually prep and equipment)...

"Never spend more than 5-7 years in any job"

Like everything in life, it is all about balance. Happiness, opportunity to learn, work/life balance, cash, security, safety and I am sure many more. Personally, I am nearly 33 and have been employed at the same Company for 15 years in mid January. For this, I get Long Service benefits...

    Request for supplier documentation

Thanks every one for your input. I had most of it covered, but there were a couple of things where I was a more specific. The Project Director is personally passionate about this topic. I think this is really why this task was a rehash of what basically mostly existed. Thanks evryone again. ASM

    Request for supplier documentation

Thankyou all so far. I have got many of the same deep seeded hesitations that you seem to be expressing. To make matters worse (or maybe better?), I have since found a company document that describes most of what I've been asked to write up. I really now have to find out what they are asking...

    Request for supplier documentation

I have recently been allocated to a large project that basically is going to build a new steelworks based Steam generation and Power Plant. My background is Mechanical Asset Strategist for a Strip Casting Project, Oxy Plant, Gasholders and Gas Distribution. The installed plant (when operating)...

Promoted by still forced to support old team

Sorry for the late post, but I know of a motto that I think suits here. Very similar to the following. (don't remember the exact phase or author at present) There are two types of people. Those who make thing happen, and those who claim the credit. Try and be the first type. These is less...

    GD&T for controlling excessive "twist."

Naturally I also agree with MadMango's datum set and comments about tolerances on what seems to be some sort of prototype / display model. Constructability is a major factor in things/designs like this. Regards ASM

    GD&T for controlling excessive "twist."

Instead of (or as well as) stating flatness across the piece, state it in the drawing for along the piece. Therefore straightness will take out bowing as you suggest and flatness will take out corkscrew as ewh suggests. Just a quick opinion ASM

Safety Relief Valves - Typical Failure Modes??

I am a maintenance strategist in a steel plant in the Energy and Cryogenics department. I have seen various types of failures, but most common include: Seat Leakage - from (as previously described) foreign objects, associated equipment vibration (chatter), maintenance induced (from pulling...

Going the extra mile down a dead end road

whyun, That is such a known formula. Those who don't perform get promoted out of the critical jobs. I once recieved the following email extract that I am sure most have seen before but it is worth seeing again Dilbert's "Salary Theorem" states that "Engineers and Scientists can never earn as...

Going the extra mile down a dead end road

zdas04, Could not agree more. A star for you. Having said that, I am at work now while everyone else is at home. But I will go soon. The main reason for me being here is I was given another task that could not be squeezed into the day, so it is getting chipped away at slowly on paid overtime...
