    Help Identifying Floor System (1900ish)

Matthew Stewart has also written several articles for Structure magazine. This one was published in June 2009 and contained similar information. Best of luck.

Existing Steel Structure with Low Toughness Resistance at 0°C

You may want to consider reviewing ASME BTH-1. It addresses some of the concerns regarding dynamic loading, fatigue, and operational temps.

    One-Way Post Tension Slab Design

ACI will allow you to design beams and one-way slabs beyond 6sqrt(f'c), so your assumption is correct. Typically I would not design a one-way slab beyond 7.5sqrt(f'c). If it is a parking deck or slab that is going to experience significant weather or road salts, etc., I would design it at or...

Designing Slab to Resist Constant Vibration from Machinery

You need to verify that the natural frequency of the slab you are designing does not coincide with the frequency of the machine. I recommend "Design of Structures and Foundations for Vibrating Machines" by Arya, O'Neil and Pincus

Anchor Bolt Design - Pump Anchorage

Typically designing for the force generated by the pump in a lock up situation is how I will design the anchorage with no additional information. Max Torque formula at lock up taken as T= HP*5252/RMP, where HP=horsepower and RMP is the motor speed. The torque is then resisted by the couple...

    Georgia Licensing

Ron, I think the window for sending in an affidavit to the PELS Board of Georgia may have lapsed for being grandfathered in. Just an FYI. Best regards,

    Welding T304 Metal Decking

I have a client that wants to replace a roof with T304 3N metal decking. They need to comply with FM Global attachment requirements, thus requires being welded. Are there any concerns of welding T304 to A992 with puddle weld attachments? I am concerned with welding dissimilar metals. AUCE98

    Current Steel Prices?

The $0.80 price seems like it might be material cost only. In estimating projects I will typically take the material cost and multiply by 3 ( material, fabrication and erection). In general, the price is floating around $4,000 to $5,000 per ton for the industrial projects that I am involved with.

    Trolley Beam Hoist Structure Design

My two cents...The hoist, trolley and rigging can all change over the lifetime of the monorail. Design the monorails for the lifted load plus the weight(not capacity) of the hoist and trolley. Have the load capacity of hte monorail welded onto the beam.

    Miami Pedestrian Bridge, Part III

I worked for VSL as an engineer for two years several years ago, mostly monostrand commercial building design work. My understanding from some former coworkers was that they were in the process of de-stressing one of the threaded bars when it collapsed. So they were attempting to reverse the...

    Grounding rod-Structural Engineer letter

Thaidavid40, are you referring to a UFER ground? Ufer ground is a slang term used to describe NEC requirement for concrete-encased electrodes. Which in reality is the grounding lead tied to a rebar mat of a certain minimum size.

    Bolt coating question

Has anyone had experience with the use of Xyland coating on A325 or A490 bolts. It appears to be a corrosion resistance coating similar to Teflon. My concern is the possibility of the nuts loosening over time. The manufacturers website indicates that a better, more accurate torqueing value is...

    SEISMIC RETROFIT- SOFT STORY

Check out FEMA P-807 guidelines. Simpson Strong-Tie has a good online training course about the exact topic you are looking at.
