Boundary condition on a burst pressure test

How would I balance the loads if using the 3-2-1 method? The simulation is highly non-linear geometrically and the load balance changes with each step of the solve process.

Boundary condition on a burst pressure test

I am trying to simulate the following (see image attached): A "box" made of a polymer, the box walls are around 2mm thick and the general dimensions of the box is around 200x200x50mm. The box has 2 nipples one on each side. I am trying to simulate a "burst pressure" test, in reality one of the...

How much G is reasonable for free fall impact?

Hi, Not directly Ansys related, but I did run the analysis using Ansys. I have an explicit simulation of a tank, weighs around 7.5 Kg with internal parts, falls from 1 meter. Since I never had a validation of such an experiment I am trying to understand if the numbers are right. I get...

Spaceclaim - basic CAD functionality missing?

Hi, I am using spaceclaim for quite a while now, Id like to say its a decent pre-processing tool but it seems lacking some basic functionality even an outdated tool like DM has. Maybe its just me and I'm too old to learn a new CAD tool, but I assume such a tool will have the most basic CAD...

Engineering Vs. True stress strain curve in nonlinear analysis

Hi, When doing a non-linear analysis, I know that I should insert the true stress and strain curve to the material model (regular metal plasticity model using ANSYS for instance). The data I get from the material manufacturer (Young's modulus, yield point) is based on the engineering stress...

    Showing results with transparent mesh

    Thanks, works perfect!

    Showing results with transparent mesh

Hi, I want to show results (deformation) with one (or all) parts transparent, I need to see what happens inside while still being able to see the whole assembly. Sectioning is not good and in wire frame I can barely see anything. Is there such an option in mechanical?

Adding "standard earth gravity" to an explicit analysis causes large energy error

Hi, I am running an explicit simulation in Ansys explicit, everything runs OK and the solve process finishes, but when I add a "standard earth gravity" BC to all bodies the analysis crashes at an early stage due to a large energy error. Anyone knows why adding gravity causes this? Thanks.

Is it possible to use a spring element that is not bonded to parts in the assembly in Ansys explicit

Hi, I am modelling an assembly that includes a compression spring that sits between 2 parts - in real life when the assembly impacts the ground and disassembles the spring is floating around and is free to move on its own. Is it possible to use a spring element to model such behavior (without...

    Spaceclaim - 2D sketching

I dont have (or I dont see) a ruler tool while in sketch, only while using "pull", and while in pull it is really not convenient to use to edit a sketch. It was a breeze in DM (and DM is a pretty bad tool for creating sketches comparing to decent CAD suites). Is it really that hard to give...

    Spaceclaim - 2D sketching

Thanks, what about dimensions in the sketch?

    Spaceclaim - 2D sketching

Hi, I started using spaceclaim after about 5 years using design modeler for geometry prep, and for the love of god, I cant understand how this software is claimed to be a CAD tool. Ive used most of the main CAD tools out there (Solidworks, Catia, Inventor, Solid Edge, NX) and I've never...

Explicit meshing - what to do with sharp corners

Hi, I am modelling crash and drop test for parts with a lot of very small radius features (<1mm). In order to get the run time to reasonable numbers I have to remove these radius features and most of the time I get sharp corners. When using implicit schemes I now this is a big no no, but in...

How many nodes/elements/DOFs do you work with?

In my point of view and in my line of work the (original) discussion is moot (2D or 3D etc.), and this is why the answer to the OP is extremely industry / line of work dependent I understand the necessity of using 2D elements and their advantages, but where I currently work, 2D elements are...
