SparWeb,
Possibly get a free trial to practice on in the meantime at:

Years ago, there was a node limited version for students, but I am not sure if it is available.

Sparweb,
You will be amazed at how much content you can find on the web by searching for "Femap Tutorials" in Google search and YouTube videos.
Good luck.
I would higly recommend "A First Course in the Finite Element Method" by Daryl Logan - Fourth Edition (2011)(SI Edition)
Thanks Blas ! And a merry Christmas to you too !
Oh, and thank you for all the excellent Femap videos you have created over the years and can now be found on youtube :)
Any chance of having someone dub them into English too ?
Cheers
Arnie
Do you have a spare PSU you can swop out and try?
In my experience all my issues with systems mysteriously resetting or freezing were the result of a PSU unit on its last leg or merely acting up.
Good luck.
The books above are all great. I have them all and a few others.
However, the best book for your level in starting out with FEA, and matching the criteria you mention above in my humble is "A First Course in the Finite Element Method" by Daryl Logan 4th edition (2011).
Check it out.

Set your analysis requirements in the project window then your structure has to be modeled with line elements. WB certainly has this capability.
