    Need Help on Drafting Abbreviation

At this time the column is still in service. Will have to wait for the Turnaround to get inside and inspect. I suspect that what we have is weld metal overlay of some type won't know the exact material until we do PMI during turnaround. I did not mean to imply a loose liner but some of the Vac...

    Need Help on Drafting Abbreviation

I have an old drawing from the 50's of a vacuum tower that is carbon steel with a alloy liner on the inside of the shell. I know the liner is either 410S or 317 S.S. The liner is called out on the drawing as a 5/64" thk U.M. liner. At this point I am not sure if the liner is Cladding, Weld...

    ASME VIII Div.1 Vs. Div.2

If I understand what you have written here correctly your design pressure is 325 bar g or approx. 4,713 psig. If that is the case you need to look at Section VIII Div. 1 paragraph U-1(c)(2)(j). I think your design pressure has exceeded the limitations of division 1.

    Weld-O-Lets & ASME VIII Div. 1

Since Weldolets are bought as a pipe schedule; sch. 40, 80, 160 ect. for this situation I used the thickness of the pipe schedule that matches the schedule of the weldolet. If you look at how a weldolet is made you will see that you have at least that much thickness, probably more, out to the...

Looking for a Good Heat Exchanger Book

Just to add a note to what Tom has said. When I first started working with heat exchangers I ask the same question that you have ask. The first book that someone mentioned to me was the one that Tom has mentioned by Gupta. I have found this book to be extremly helpful and it does address a lot...

    Weld-O-Lets & ASME VIII Div. 1

This is a new vessel, it is part of a large skid package. A pipe shop with a b31.3 code stamp was going to build it until they realized it had to have a U stamp. Now another shop with with a U stamp is going to build it. I am doing the calculations for the shop that is going to build and stamp...

    Weld-O-Lets & ASME VIII Div. 1

Thanks to all - this is not something that I did or would do but it has already been done and I have been ask to verify the design for this vessel. obviously there are a number of other options that I would have chosen if I had been given the opportunity to do so. So now my problem is making...

    Weld-O-Lets & ASME VIII Div. 1

Has anyone ever used a weldolet for a nozzle on a ASME Section 8 Div. 1 Pressure Vessel? Does Sect.8 Div 1 allow the use of weldolets? I cannot find anywhere in the code where it is clearly allowed or disallowed. Also I am not sure how you would go about adding a re-pad to a weldolet nor even...

    Bottom weld

It is most certainly possible to build a 3/8" lap welded bottom. I have seen it done more than once. But as Joe said it is difficult and presents several challenges for the fabricator. It might also turn out to be more economical in the long run to build a butt welded bottom. Is there some...
