SolidWorks Advanced Surface Flattening is a SolidWorks Premium feature.

There are also Sheet Metal features flattening which is in core SolidWorks.
Show us a screen shot of which command you are attempting to use...
Not auto-magically with a feature tree.
Does all the data really need to be converted? Can you just create SolidWorks files of the projects that are truly current and need to be maintained?
Can you make pdf's of the Inventor 2D drawings and save out 3D solid step files of the 3D inventor...
I can't do 3D cad without one.

This thread on the SolidWorks forum tells you what the problem is. You can no longer activate two seats of SolidWorks from a single serial number. You will have to deactivate/activate when sharing a SW serial number between office workstation and road laptop...
You can disable this in the System Options > Assemblies > Toggle On "Save New Components To External Files"
Virtual components have been in SolidWorks since SolidWorks 2008.

You will be able to use your old seat of SW and Workgroup PDM as long as you have a compatible operating system and computer it will install on. You will not be able to keep that system running forever. Something to think about when you setup the archive system, be sure to setup a system...
