Simple questions:
What is the minimum bearing requirement for hollow core precast plank?
What is the minimum steel beam flange width for interior bearing of plank from both sides of beam?
Thanks.
I am curious if anyone has a rule of thumb capacity that could help. The situation is the following:
1. It's a curtain wall system that has C6 channels at 6'-0" c/c that are connected to stiffener plates along the length of the spandrel.
2. The plate has horizontal slots for fit-up.
3. We...
Thanks guys. I understand the concept of the design of a two-way slab by hand, but I thought that a program would utilize a FE method and not actually have me input the information individually for each strip. I finally tracked down the software, and you're right it is PCA Slabs. It doesn't...
JAE, I have been to the PCA website and that module looks like a one-way slab program. I have not been able to find the ADOSS software, but many people have mentioned it. ADOSS is suppose to be able to do two-way slabs and quite possibly PT slabs. Does this info help.
thanks
I am having a really hard time finding the software called "ADOSS". I heard of it through this site, but have not been able to find their website. Does anyone have the we address?
Thanks
Thanks for the responses so far. It seems like ADOSS is a winner among everyone. The project has changed, and I think that we're going to eliminate the dual system and only use shear walls. This obviously simplifies the design for the lateral system, but we are still looking for a good flat...
We just got a new project that is most likely going cast-in-place. Since it is a condo that will not architecturally accommodate spandrel beams (or any beams for that matter), we are looking at flat plate construction. We have shear walls, but based on their location and configuration within...
The IBC has regions in the ground snow load tables that are labeled CS (case specific). These areas are tricky, because not all municipalities are savy enough to provide the structural EOR with the required info.
NJ utilizes the US Army Corps of Engineers Cold Regions Research and Engineering...
Thanks Ron,
Appreciate the response, but what I'm looking for is more than a quick answer that will conservatively work. I need to be able to site a reference for this project and others in the future. We often work with municipalities that require submitting calcs and they can be picky.
I designed a diaphragm using IBC 2003 and all the tables utilize nails for fastening (as do all other resources I have ever seen). I want to use screws to minimize squeaky floors. Where can I find a reference that gives equivalent screw sizes for common nails?
I compared the allowable shear...
IRstuff - please clarify. If you re-read what i wrote, i was the one that came up with the work-energy relation. The idea of the fence disapating the energy as a spring would, is my idea. I think it makes sense, except for the fact that the equation assumes that there is no change in...
I have to design a cage for a tiger in a local zoo. The cage fencing is suppose to be some sort of wire mesh. I'm trying to determine what loads to use for a 600# tiger. The assumption is the tiger will run at the fence and hit it a specified velocity.
My boss wants me to use Fd = 1/2mv^2...
Bubby,
It might be the septic lines have burst and are undermining the foundations; therefore, differential settlement has occurred. If you determine a benchmark that has been established during construction and compare this with the situation at hand, maybe the answer will become apparent...
