Nicolas,
Thanks for your information. As the keg is empty, I used 100% of the mass.
Using an approximate stiffness of 60x10^6 N/m I obtain an impact duration of 0.0015 seconds. The formula does not however allow for adjustment in impact time due to higher velocity at start time of impact - why...
I have a steel beer keg of 13kg falling 2.0m onto a concrete pavement. What is the approximate duration of impact in order to calculate the deceleration and hence the force imparted on the pavement (I have estimated it to be less than 0.1 seconds but I am not sure how to justify this)
Thankyou orbit
I have used this exact book. I am however curious as to how one should specify deflection to limit flutter as well as excessive visual deformation under wind loading.
There are relations but they may be dangerous to apply as CBR was developed for pavements not structures. CBR values are specifically not good to use on sandy soils because pad footings tend to confine sands while the CBR does not. Confinement boosts bearing capacity.
Better to use standard...
Use the wind code to determine wind coefficients/drag forces that will impact on the pole - Usually a manufacturer can offer some data on this issue.
Design foundation for resultant shear and bending forces such that foundation contact area is always under positive (compression) pressure over...
I refer to a previous question raised by tjclose regarding aircraft bridge design guides. Reference was made to an ASCE Journal of Bridge Engineering Nov/Dec 2001 vol 6 no 6, "Design consideration of aircraft bridges by Bruce A Moulds". Could you please fax this article to me at +44...
Ribeneke, I do agree that the correlation is outside the intended field but it does compare to some extent to a plate bearing test and hence the reason for some possible correlation.
Steve, the fax number is correct but this is not the first time that I have had communication problems with fax machines between the US and UK. I do not need an answer urgently so I will try and obtain the document here. Thankyou for all your effort.
I wish to obtain a correlation between allowable soil bearing capacity and (kN/m2) and the California bearing ratio (CBR). This may be in graphic or formula format
