It is out of a pick-up truck circa 2008 so I,m told. We are a shop that specializes in AC & DC traction motor rewinding & rebuilding. We took it in at the customer request to try to see if it could be reverse engineered. Wasn't expecting to see this.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this winding configuration?
We have no name plate information but the client says it is a GM Hybrid motor/3 phase. He doesn't know the rpm rating.
My dilemna is where to get/ make coils to rewind this...
The generator is self exciting. We do not know the dc excitation voltage as is is not stated on the nameplate.
We probably repeated this run up about a 1/2 dozen times during the vibration testing. 2-3 times @ 550v and 2-3 times @ 4160. Speed recorded was 1195 RPM. It took ~ 1 minute to reach...
We have had a EM 2200kva 6 pole turbine driven generator in our shop for repair with which we are having a problem.
The unit came in for repair with a low ground reading on the wound rotor (.3 meg ohms). We cleaned and varnish treated the rotor and got it to come up to 4200 MOhms. We assembled...
Has anyone ever heard of using a "AC curve test" to set neutral on a DC machine. We have a client who has requested this procedure to set the neutral on (2) 1500 HP DC main propulsion motors that power a research vessel. They have been experiencing sparking on the commutator at full load on the...
Hello ManuSuissa
We do this all the time with no noticeable difference in results from the upper to the lower piece. We are using Von Roll 74035 thixotropic resin at 2 torr vac and 90 psi.
Keep in mind that induction motors made to run on VFD's are wound with inverter duty magnet wire. Some of the older motors cannot withstand the phase to phase voltage stresses when run off a vfd. Also cooling is an issue that needs to be considered as well. If the motor is going to be run at a...
Our strategy at this point is to wind the motor with the turns, wire size, and coil spans ( I can't see how they could have made an error with these) we found in the motor when we got it and bring out 12 leads on each of the windings. We can then play around with different configurations and see...
To answer some of your questions-
The ship engineer says the controls are set up so that the 8 pole is on one set of contactors and the 2 pole /4 pole on another other set.. I'll try to get a copy of the control schematic and post it.
Our initial assumption also- The 4 pole/8 pole must be one...
The problem is that the motor was wound by another motor shop and the customer says it was wound with incorrect data. We can't get data from the factory. The 2/4 pole winding was completly burnt up when we got it in our shop so we were not able to run it here in order to try to diagnose the...
The 8 pole winding worked OK according to the customer. The 2/4 pole winding is what failed and actually never ran properly. He did not elaborate on exactly what was the problem.
Redistributimg the bad lams throught the restack works well in most cases. Soaking the lams in phosporic acid will aid the process of "restoring " the insulating value of the core plate. An extra long VPI pressure cycle on the finished stator also helps as well if it will fit in your tank. I...
This is the connection for the 2/4 pole winding.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=fe47f875-0039-44a8-9f26-ec29a7ecb8c3&file=Winch_motor_connection_print.pdf
