I've used Pro/E for about 17 years, NX for 3-4 years (and UG from versions 1 thru 10 before it), and Solidworks for about 5 years. No Catia experience, so I can't comment on it.
I found that NX was buggy in V4, but by V5 and V6 it became somewhat amazing. Seimens' acquistion of the product...
You can crop the view by sketching a rectangle around the entities you want in the view, then 'insert/drawing view/crop view'.
I will only work on primary views.

I got into the habit of naming all my features years ago, but sketches I leave alone.
Naming features helps other users work on the model. It also helps me jump around more easily. I consider it part of being a good 'CAD citizen'.

Sorry, there is no way to do this. This is the rule in the CAD business - you can pull up an old model in a newer software version, but not vice-versa.
Think about it - how could CAD vendors ever add new feature types if they had to support older software versions where such a feature had not...
Here's something to try - search Monster and other job sites using 'SolidWorks' as a keyword, then rinse, lather and repeat using Pro/E and NX.
In my area (Massachusetts) Solidworks is now the most used software by companies that are actually hiring. It has become the standard at the...
Hi Tick -
I did create the sketch at the part level, and I can select it, but SW just returns the error message I cited.
There is a 'sketch' button to create it on the fly in the form for picking the sketched feature, but it's ghosted out for me.

If you look in the parts list in the Simulation tree (not the SW assy tree) you'll see a list of solid bodies. If there is a '+' sign next to a body, expand it and look for any shell bodies you may have created (this can happen if you make a surface region on a part).
You can rt-click on the...

x64 SW2009 SP4.1
I have an assembly that I am performing a Simulation study on. On one of the components I have created a sketched circle that I would like to apply a fixed constraint to. When I try to create the constraint in the Simulation menu using 'Fixtures/Loads/Fixtures'...
You can also just CTRL-drag a component directly in the graphics window to copy it to a new location. This is a really fast way to place a lot of the same part into the assembly.
Merry Christmas to all the good people here who have helped me come up to speed quickly with SW.
Hope the new year brings you all health and prosperity.

Hello - can comeone please refresh my memory...
If I have a closed volume formed by various surfaces that I have trimmed, sewing the surfaces together should create a solid, correct? There should be no further operations necessary, right?
I don't currently have access to a seat of NX to test...
Yep, this is one thing that SW definitely does very well. It can be tricky supressing the right constraints by configuration, but I have been giving the constraints the configuration name to make them easier to identify.
I agree with your method - add a second instance of the component with...
