    Beam Reinforcement Calculation

Using web plate helps in resisting shear stresses mainly, while using flange cover plate helps in resisting mainly bending stress, so basically you cant use one instead of the other. Everyone has its own use. Be careful. You can calculate how much shear the additional web plates can carry, and...

    Concrete hinge or pin

Thank you for the reply. Yes, the problem is in putting waterstop in such small area, or maybe external on internal wall surface waterstop should be used.

Thanks a lot This is helpful for the sliding joint

    Concrete hinge or pin

Thanks again LittleWheels. Let me share a sketch for a sliding joint that supposedly can be used in water tanks. I guess they need strict standards in order to work without problems. I remember somebody mentioned in a post that they used such joints, but I can't find it again.

    Concrete hinge or pin

I would say pin (zero moment point) according to your definition, although I see it called a hinge in several places. I have attached a sketch for what I am looking for. I have not heard or seen anybody who designed or constructed such a wall to base connection. I was wondering if I can find...

Thanks LittleWheels, although no pictures, the report is very helpful.

    Concrete hinge or pin

Hi all Did anybody here construct concrete hinge or pin, in frames or in concrete tanks? Including using elastic pads? It will be great if real pictures can be shared. I know it's not common, and when searched for, mostly sketches from textbooks come up. Thanks in advacnce

    ACI 350-20 - Ch. 9 vs App. D Comparison

Hi RattlinBog Your calculations seem valid. appendix D is more used because of its simplicity,

    PCA Circular tank Design

You were right, the old document used service loads, while the newer document used the factored load. What confused me is ACI350, where in chapter 9 it discusses the load combinations and load factor, and then limits the stress to fs. I dont know if I should go with fs, or 0.9fy?

Thanks JAE After checking, both documents used factored load...

    PCA Circular tank Design

Hello All I was going through the PCA circular tank design, and I noticed it calculates the ring steel by dividing by 0.9fy, while in some other places, it states that the steel stress should not exceed a specific value fs (20ksi for grade 60 steel and 14ksi for grade 40 steel). does anybody...
