    Scraper failure

Where is the cylinder used? What is the application? The root cause could go back to the original design - not just the cylinder seal but knowing the big picture may help. Is it on an excavator, a wheel loader, etc?

Career Change - Time to Move On?

I’m working as an ME in for a major Fortune 500 corporation and seldom look forward to going to work. I’m very valuable to management and they would prefer I take on more management responsibility and I really want no part of it, but soon have to make a decision. I always enjoyed working on...

    Hydraulic circuit design software

Try this - you can do just about anything but drive the vehicle right out of the screen. http://www.cat.com/cda/components/securedFile/displaySecuredFileServletJSP?fileId=96607&languageId=7 If this is too much, Hysan from Hydrasoft is something I've used in the past that allows you to model...

Suction Filer Sizing for Gear pumps - Any advice ?

Losty, I agree with maytag. Kidney loop it, if you are getting heavy with more EH valving that is sensitive, it's wise to go with high pressure filters ahead of the components. Inlet screening on systems with any pump has given me nothing but headaches (and reworks). Try to get the...

How to educate oneself on basic hydraulic controls/systems

Rockjoint, I agree with twomules comments where he states that hydraulics is not taught that well in engineering schools, but I've been fortunate to be on both sides of the fence. I started out by getting my associates in diesel mechanics which provided a hands on approach to all aspects of...

    Help on simple circuit design

pmf, The efficiencies of the motor and pump should not be hard to come up with, Bobcat probably uses Sauer-Danfoss, Parker, or Eaton products. I grew up near the Bobcat plant and a guy I graduated with is a mechanical engineer there. It's hard to keep up with the suppliers now because many...

Design Possibility, can or CANT be doneà

I spent 7 years as a hydraulics/diesel tech working on oil exploration equipment around the world. We used specially made vehicles with hydrostatic drives in the Middle East to the Sahara to the Alaskan Arctic (on land and ice). In all applications the hydraulic drives were the only solution...

GM Upping torque on M12x1.75 class 10.9 bolt?

CoryPad, I tend to agree with what you say - it seems strange that GM would list this. I suspected there was an error but I have the torques dual listed in my factory GM 1995 service manual and calling the local dealer confirmed that the torque is also listed as 125/126 lb-ft or 170 Nm in the...

GM Upping torque on M12x1.75 class 10.9 bolt?

CoryPad Thanks for the response. The 125 is in lbf-ft, not Nm. I questioned this too. This is covered in the GM service manuals for 6.5 diesel engines. I have a 1995 GM manual and from others I have spoke to the same is true through 2000 model years. The previous spec was 65 lbf-ft plus use...

GM Upping torque on M12x1.75 class 10.9 bolt?

Thanks for the responses - they are helpful getting an insight to what GM is doing. I have no idea about what GM is doing with the bolt nor any way of knowing the properties, just that the new bolt I bought is also stamped 10.9. The standard reference charts is what I have been looking at...

GM Upping torque on M12x1.75 class 10.9 bolt?

The cam bolt in GM 6.5 Turbo Diesel engines is an M12x1.75 grade 10.9. GM changed the torque spec from 65 Lbf-ft to 125 lbf-ft without changing the bolt. All torque charts I read show approximately 73 Lbf-ft as being the maximum torque for this bolt. I simply can't find justification anywhere...

GM 6.2 DIESEL INTAKE BUILD UP

Jim, I've owned a 6.2 and now have a 6.5. The engines have what is called a CDR (Crankcase Depression Regulator) on the passenger side valve cover. If you have a lot of miles it may need replacement, they are designed to keep a negative pressure in the engine crankcase but also to help burn...
