Is it necessary to model a dummy beam to tranfer loads from slabs to walls in ETABS?

Not anymore. In versions 6 and previous it was necessary to model a dummy beam on top of piers in order to make them accept vertical loads. From v7 to v8 that dummy beam is NO LONGER NECESSARY since the program will tranfer loads automatically.
