Bridge References

What bridge design text are available? by Qshake
Posted: 13 Oct 00

Most schools don't offer courses in bridge design, as such many of the text available to engineers remain tucked away on the bookshelves of those firms specializing in this facet of structural engineering.

Here are a few of the author's favorite text and references.  This is not intended to be a complete list but one which list many of the texts that I've found useful over the last 15 or so years.  They are listed in no particular order.

Analysis and Design of Curved Steel Bridges (Nakai)
Bridge Analysis Simplified (Bakht)
Bridge and Structure Estimating (Nardon)
Bridge Engineering Handbook (Chen)
Bridge Engineering: Design, Rehabilitation and Maintanence of Modern Highway Bridges (Tonias)
Bridge Strengthening and Rehabilitation (Xanthakos)
Bridge Substructure and Foundation Design (Xanthakos)
Bridges: Theory and Design (Xanthakos)
Cable Stay Bridges: An approach to Modern Bridge Design (Troitsky)
Continuous Concrete Bridges (PCA)
Design of Highway Bridges: Based on AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications (Barker)
Design of Modern Concrete Highway Bridges (Conrad)
Orthotropic Bridges: Theory and Design (Troitsky)
Seismic Design and Retrofit of Bridges (Priestly)
Structural Steel DesignerÆs Handbook (Brockenbrough)

Please keep in mind that there are several great references for many of the unique bridges (movable span , bascule, etc) that are also available.
