wood beam/post connection with lags
wood beam/post connection with lags
(OP)
An 8x12 timber beam butts into a continuous 8x8 post -- outdoors (protected from direct weather) and exposed to view. The connection is 4 lag screws (2 top, 2 bot) through the post into the end of the beam. Beam end reaction is 3000 lb. Is there a problem with this connection?
Thanks.
Thanks.

RE: wood beam/post connection with lags
Consider using a bracket so the beam is in bearing.
