Tank design code

Tank design code

Tank design code

(OP)
Hello all
I need to back check the design of an existing storage tank fitted with a pressure relief vent and a vacuum breaker (set at 5kPa and 0.5kPa respectively). This is outside the scope of ASME  VIII Div.1 (External or internal pressure not exceeding 15psi).
It is a vertical cylindrical vessel with domed 2:1 SE ends and four legs attached to the sides. Tank diameter 3.2m(10.5ft), height 8m(26.2ft)including legs.
It is used for storage of substances for human consumption (wine, spirits, tec).

What would the most appropriate design code be for this unit? The owner requires that the check be done against a known standard (ASME, BS, API, etc).

Your expert advice will be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks

RE: Tank design code

Some jurisdictions would require your vessel to designed to the  ASME solely due to size and the SE heads.
Even if a vessel doesn't fall under the code you can still evaluate it to the ASME Code requirements and not stamp it.
This approach will give you the most conservitive approach.

Some of the tank people will jump on board and tell what would be the best approach under current regulations.
