MAWP for 2" NPT schedule 40 pipe

MAWP for 2" NPT schedule 40 pipe

MAWP for 2" NPT schedule 40 pipe

(OP)
Hi,

I am looking for a standard for MAWP for threaded pipe; a methoed of calculating this would be great.

RE: MAWP for 2" NPT schedule 40 pipe

Additional information would be helpful;

1. What is the application?

2. What will the threaded pipe contain?

The pipe is used for metering natural gas. Therefore, the inner diameter is fixed. The pipe nipple is an integral part of the primary metering device. I am unsure of the thickness between the root of the thread and the pipe.

RE: MAWP for 2" NPT schedule 40 pipe

The standard to calculate the MAWP would be ANSI B31.3 using a threading allowance

ANSI B2.1 is the standard for threaded pipe that gives thread depths.  You may be able to get a copy of the relevant dimensions from a piping stockist.  My chart shows the maximum depth of thread for a 2" would be 1.767mm.

Also, generally you go you a schedule when you are threading pipe

Other factors that need to be considered would be operating temperature and materials of construction.

The material of construction is bar stock S 31603 stainless steel. The operating temperature is -35 to 120 degrees celsius.

Tickle,

In response to your posting 15 Jul 04 20:10, what is the table that you are looking at for a maximum depth of thread for a 2" would be 1.767mm
