sbaugh and corblimey . . . .

sbaugh and corblimey . . . .

sbaugh and corblimey . . . .

(OP)
A while ago both of tried to help me get a linear pattern of holes in parts that are controllable at the assembly level.

A good work around was found by one of the guys that teaches the solid works classes.  Put the patterns in at the part level and a "dummy" pattern in at the assembly level. Use equations to link the values of the part level patterns to the assembly level patterns and then they are controlled throught the assembly design table.

cor, you mentioned equations before and maybe this was what you meant but I'm too thick skulled to understand sometimes.

Just thought I would let you guys know.

RE: sbaugh and corblimey . . . .

Good tip. You may want to write a FAQ for everyone.

RE: sbaugh and corblimey . . . .

Thats almost what I was trying to explain, except I did not use a "dummy" pattern. The equations only need to link the part patterns to achieve the same result. Then all you have to do is edit the controlling pattern & rebuild. You could alternatively use a DT to link the dimensions & qty's and create configs if req'd.
Where the confusion was coming in with your original post was with the "Linear sketch & repeat" feature not being able to be linked to either equations or DT's.

RE: sbaugh and corblimey . . . .

Ignore the "You could alternatively use a DT to link the dimensions & qty's and create configs if req'd." statement in my post. Don't know what I was thinking (obviously not much!!) when I typed that.
