SS316L SN - Fatigue data

SS316L SN - Fatigue data

SS316L SN - Fatigue data

(OP)
We have an assy using a solid 5" bar of 316L with 24" dia x 3/8" thick flanges welded at 18" intervals.  I need to look at suitable SN data for 316L but cannot locate any in my available sources. Any ideas where to find data?

RE: SS316L SN - Fatigue data

I'm sure there is a lot of fatigue testing data around, but you need to be aware that the fatigue strength of annealed 304/316 SS is very low.  I am aware of failures where the calculated stresses varied only +/- 7 ksi!

RE: SS316L SN - Fatigue data

The Handbook of Stainless Steel gives the endurance limit for 316 as 39 ksi based on data from INCO. This is for reversed bending.

RE: SS316L SN - Fatigue data

Extensive fatigue information can be found in the "Aerospace Structural Metals Handbook".
